Even when I'm racing wheel-to-wheel at the track, I'll still be aware of the OEM shift light as I'm trying to duel with other cars!

Beyond that, there's no simple way to hook up a beeper to your Z to help you shift. You could take this to a separate thread, rather than piggybacking on this one, but I'd advise against it. You'd need a top fuel race suit to withstand the flames then...

I would need an air horn for an audible tone.

I hit the limiter from time to time , usually cause I didn't feel like shifting and ride the limiter for 1/2 second or I'm in really close proximity of another car and just space it for a second

Comments are too funny!!

The factory shift light is jus plain annoying and useless IMHO. I'm looking in to doing something like this using the instrument cluster wiring but think it may not be as simple as twisting wires together!! I'm not worried about my harness, but rather the trigger may not be a simple wire. It could all be happening in the cluster. I'm going to take mine apart and test it. I'll post my findings if anyone's interested. An after market shift light run off a coil pack for about $165 is probably the simplest safest way to go.

Dont say ********, you cant figure exactly 7500 rpm's, not 7200 or 7300, just buy engine sound.
Yes, i also see shift light, and shift as you all, but for maximum perfomance beep sound is better. Why is it so funny?
I can shift at redline without looking at my tach no problem. I do know redline just BY (not buy) the sound and feel of the car. It's called learning your car.

STI is not a Barbie car, but it is also not as manly as a Z for sure.

I'm shifting upwards around 8k I kno my car. I'm not looking to shift jus before or even slightly over, I'm looking for exact ! My reasoning for using a shift light.. It's a simple way of knowing you've stretched everything outta that gear. I also don't drive my car on the street. So for my needs, is jus one of those things I'd get full use of.

When you're running a turbo and spinning the tires the RPM's can go up fast. Especially with no rev-limiter(from installing a UTEC) this is a needed mod.

Hmm had my car for 3 years and never had a problem with the gauge. The light is a cool feature, but your tach should be in your peripheral when your drivng.

Shifting at 8k is WAY beyond the redline, which means youre lossing power, which means youre not driving your car at its best.
