35th anniversary edition or 2007-08 350z
Now as most if not all of us are aware, the 35th anniversary edition has the VQ35DE Rev Up and the 07-08 models have the HR. My question is, is it really THAT much of a power difference? The 35th anniversary is 300 HP stock, the 07-08 is 306 stock. That's a whopping 6 horsepower difference, so could someone clarify what makes the HR that much faster than the rev up? Thanks!

Basically what he said ^
Whether its interior or exterior, the '07 and newer is better. Not to mention the HR motor is much more reliable, not as many issues as the DE or rev-up (i.e. oil consumption, etc). And hey, who doesn't appreciate more horsepower? Might want to look up some dynos, the whp between the two might be a bigger difference.

07 to 08 has the better more powerful engine it would win if you lined them up. I have a 06 with the rev up with some bolt ons and tune and it's a fun car. But I have newer headlights and the led tails that came standard in 06 really looks nice. I had a cobalt ss turbo before this with 300 hp and 370 tq to the wheels so the Z feels meh compared to that.
Anyways get the hr if you can swing it it's the superior machine and the best 350z in its production run. 07-08

06 has these, nothing on the inside is different. Oil consumption wasnt on all motors, a lot of them were fixed. I have 93k on my revup no consumption. The engine is faster better stronger, but cost a lot more to do anything to. keep that in mind. I wouldnt say leaps and bounds like a lot of people seem to think, but I also haven't been stock for many years. I pull on g37s all the time, there are a few in my town that love to race, the 2 that come to mind even have full exhausts. most of the 370zs in my local Z club will pull on me though, most of them have boltons though but its not really by a huge amount.
Ill counter the Rev up oil consumption that a $125 catch can seems to fix, with the expensive slave cylinder replacement for the HRs, with the shitty clutches. 06 has a CD009 (the good one) tranny with no clutch issues. the 07-08 also have a higher center of gravity, and the ugly hood bump. (sorry just tired of seeing people worship that engine)

Seems like someone is a hater on the HR.
By the way the HR is pure sex, hence why many DE guys upgrade to it.
OP if you have the opportunity to get a HR over a Rev-Up I would without a doubt do it.
08 here with no slave issues. I would rather have slave issues than oil consumption issues.

Other than the aesthetics of the car, as other have said, I seriously doubt youll notice a power difference driving around town. On a track on the other hand...
I always said my old 2005 DE felt a bit quicker to say 40 ish than my 2013 370. After that though...forget about it.

Be aware that MANY so-called 35th cars simply aren't, because dealers don't know what the F they're selling. Same goes for Base cars sold as Enthusiast, Enthusiast as GT, etc. Dealers have no worries bumping a car up a trim level, or two, and then claiming ignorance when called on it. Read the FAQ and do your homework before shopping.

i wish my 2003 touring with bolt-ons was a stock 07-08 HR....lol
The power to the wheels is a huge difference, and here in florida, i have seen stock HR run very low 13's(auto or manual), you are not getting that out of a bolt-on 03-06 car.
Plus, the 07-08 interior is a little nicer.

OP, I own several variants - DE, HR, and VQ37VHR - and as a counterpoint to all the HR worship (laff) I'm reading, I actually said at one point that the HR is my least loved engine of the three. I've since gotten more acquainted with the HR and do NOT condemn the thing but also don't feel it's the shiznit that everyone makes it out to be.
Of course, I run with stock motors ONLY, preferring to extract the most out of the cars through suspension; so as far as engine mods, cannot say with any degree of accuracy which one is a better base engine to work with. Guess that all depends on the application. Road, maybe the HR, drags, well, chuck it for LSX. Hahahahahaha.
Here, read my comparison of the DE and HR here in this comparison:

I'm pretty unbiased about any of my Z cars and prefer to call 'em as I see 'em. (Read the first post in that thread and you'll get a sense that I don't really get all "UP" about a particular vehicle.)
Bottom line, I don't think one can go wrong with any of the three engine series in the Z33 (excluded the VHR because it wasn't available in this generation chassis discussed) SO LONG AS you understand the foibles of each motor, e.g., "06 oil consumption", etc., you should be fine.

I would purchase the 07-08 based strictly on the fact that the HR has bigger main bearings and taller deck height in the motor. Even if its not much faster you know the engine will be more robust, especially if you go to the track.

Don't worry about which year to get, IMO, there isn't that much of a difference between the DE, Rev Up or HR motors, I've driven all of them in various z's, I prefer my DE honestly, just find a nice un-molested, low-mileage z and enjoy it.

I will just leave this here for all the DE lovers.

26 hp and 5 ft-lbs is a big difference. The usual bolt-ons won't make up that difference.

Bolt ons wont make up for a 5tq difference?
The revup also has stronger internals than a DE as well.
I have driven all 3. They really are not that much faster. Its not worth the 3-5k difference in price they seem to command. Take the extra money and get a vortech. Its not HR hate, but people worship it like its the single greatest thing to happen to Zs. Then **** on the Revup witch has been my personal favorite to drive, all because they read on the forums that every single one of them burn 9 QTs of oil with each gas change. Its just not true. From what I have seen in my Z club and personal experience with the cars is a catch can solves most of the consumption issues.
Obviously it isn't the greatest representative sample but I can only think of 1 guy in the area that I know of that has real consumption issues, but I know he trashes on his car and likes to do sick drifts yo.
The rev up didn't even pull to 7k in that one random dyno sheet. showing one pull. That was the point of the upgrades on that engine, to pull on the higher end.
