Default Finding 2006.5?

So I have a 2005 35th aniv edition Z and as some of you may know they have oil consumption issues. Love the car, don't want to get rid of it and getting the piston rings done is going to cost as much as another salvage Z. Im looking for a salvage 6.5 Z on copart since they fixed the consumption problems on them. What I'm trying to find out is what date did they start to manufacture the 2006.5 350z. Im using carfax so if anyone knows how else i can determine a 6.5 that would be great.

P.S. if anyone has any other suggestions on what I can do about my consumption situation is more then welcome to comment.

Was also thinking about getting a wrecked HR and swap it myself, probably be easier swapping it then hunting down a 6.5. Any thoughts?

Every 2 days i add a good amount, been doing it for the past 2 years, have it in check like clockwork. Recently its been getting out of hand though and blows out huge smoke clouds whenever i start it or hit the peddle a bit.

Do your research and find out the many reasons why the HR swap isn't going to happen.

you have to do the tranny, ecu and wiring harness from the hr, and then you would also need the headers and cats, or you could swap your de ones on but that would be dumb

is it possible, yeah.... is it worth it, nope

All of that comes with the car, im looking for one that got hit really bad in the back/side and has little or no damage in the front. Im looking to pay no more then 2000 in the auction and after copart fees and delivery itll cost somewhere around 3k-4k. Which isnt bad considering engines go for 3k themselves and i could part out whatever is left to help with financials.

Get the wrecked one then sell me cheep parts. I dont really need anything at the moment. Their is a guy in Springfield selling his shitbox touring auto with supposed clean title for 3300 semi localy.. Dont know what the engine issue is though...https://westernmass.craigslist.org/cto/5048400516.html couldnt you get a new engine from Z1 for not much more then your wreck idea? Then again $4000 for an engine is a hard pill to swallow and you wouldn't get that back.. Their is a guy in Hartford doing a ls swap and selling his motor.http://newhaven.craigslist.org/pts/5007895889.html also lots more can be found if you look for it. Good luck.

What a shitty rambling post I just made. I guess if I was you I would try to find a used low miles engine and save the hassle of dismantling a whole car and having all that laying around. Unless you have a big garage and a forgiving wifey. If you have those 2 things I would deff buy the wreck just for the fun of taking the car apart.

There's a place in Rancho Cordova CA called Sac City Autoparts. They specialize in Z32/Z33 stuff. They get a lot of side impact and rear impact 350Zs. I'm sure you could pick up a used pulled engine from them for a good price (a bit risky imo, but cheap). They also sell rebuilt engines.

I have a 2006 350Z, it was one of the last produced (11/2006) and even my Z consumes oil, but at a manageable rate (about 2qts over 3500 miles). Luckily for me, no smoke or anything nasty like that. My long term plan is to buy a used short or long block and rebuild it myself over time, before my current engine is ready to quit. Then I'll just do a swap.

If your Z already has a salvage title, I don't know if I would invest the cash in it. Good Luck with whatever you choose to do!

I would suggest getting your existing motor rebuilt. You don't have a clue what kind of maintenance a used motor might have had. If you buy a used motor, you might be getting more of the same problems you have been having. But an alternative that might be better than an HR would be getting a LS-1 and installing it.

Sell and take a loss.

Any vehicle with oil consumption is not worth the hassle.

I have a 35th aniv edition with no oil problem because it's an auto. How many miles on yours? I know there was a TSB that called for Nissan to replace the engine for excess oil consumption, but that probably only applies to the original owner. Sell it for what you can.
