Default VQ Typical Rebuild Time?

There's a difference in times. The Shop Time or The Garage Worker time.

So if you have got your Z rebuilt by someone, How long did it take and who did it? The Shop or a Garage Worker?

Very curious due to I plan on getting mine rebuilt. All replies are appreciated!

This question really depends on how extensive a rebuild you need. For example, how worn are the main and rod journals? Does the crank need to be turned and oversized bearings needed? What about the top end? Are the heads in good shape or do they need to be rebuilt? New valve seats or stem seals? All these things take time and you won't know everything until you (or the shop) disassemble the engine.

Nothing typical about an engine rebuild, A pro shop might rebuild a VQ in less than four days with the right motivation ($$$), while a garage project can take years!

my back yard rebuild took 9 months. why. machine shops took there time I took my time. got lazy, stopped, started, stopped, got drunk a few times .... 9 months in total. a shop about 2 weeks depending on who the machine shop is if all parts are on hand and how much your paying them.

heres something my dad would always tell me cheap -- reliable -- fast only pick 2

There you go! Yeah my build so far is at 1 and a half months. Garage worker doing mine. Great work done so far and close to completion. Close to 900 in labor. Just was trying to figure out if that was good situation.

Cheaper to buy a used low mileage engine if your rebuilding it stock. Or prove me wrong
