The Philips are fine, along with Osram, Sylvania and Morimoto. Avoid cheep Chinese-made knockoff crap and buy from a reputable source to avoid counterfeit bulbs. 4300 - 5500k will give the best light output.

What would a reputable source for these be?

I've bought mine from Amazon, but not from one of their 3rd party vendors. IIRC I paid around $80 a few years back for a pair of D2S Philips 5000k, but noticed that prices change all the time. I'm sure there are other sources, but I'm an Amazon junkie.

I second this. However, I said screw it and bought a set of off brand bulbs from ebay almost 2 years ago and they still haven't failed! I can make a for sale thread for my oem 6k bulbs if you'd like. They're just sitting in boxes in my desk drawer
