Default High pitch whistle sound

When driving at speed down the highway, or on a local road at 35mph - 40 mph. I get a high pitch whistle from time-to-time. It sounds like air against rubber. I can't figure out a pattern of when the noise occurs. Sometimes it happens once every two weeks. Sometimes it happens once a day.

Anyone have any ideas? I wish i had a clearer diagnostic. Sorry!!!

2006 6-speed manual, with 88k miles on it Interlagos Fire Metallic.

Thanks!!!

Listened on youtube for a wheel bearing noise. Doesn't sound like that. That sounds more like a mouse to me.

But I'll get a video of the noise and post a link to youtube so you all can hear it.

Funny video too.

Thanks!!!

Wheel bearings sound closer to a rumble than a whistle.

Is it your tires? Small advice frm someone who has had 30+ setups on just this car; IS THE NOISE LIKE A FAX MACHINE (or dial up if youre over 27) and is it WHEN THE RD/TIRES are cold?
My Z sounds like a fax machine until the rubber is up to temperature; being in MN you can imagine the nitrogen helps; however if it 70*+ cool; if its 40-65* there is going to be noise for the first few...then it should calm. Also, this is including the brand new potenza pole positions just applied last week, just MUCH less noise w new wheels. my $.02

Just in case, check for a leak in the intake tubing. Coworker complained about a similar issue and it turns out he had a small tear in one of the cuplings on his stock intake.

Worth a shot.

Your front windshield may have a leak. Also, I noticed a whistle noise when driving above 40 too.....it was the wind rushing alongside my side mirror. Try pulling it in while moving.....its dumb but just may be it.

Guys, thank you for all the posts. My gf got in a wrecked and totaled her car. 1 week later and I'm finally back on the road with the Z after dealing with her car mess. I'll get the video of the noise up on youtube. It might take a week or two to get because it's intermittent, but I'll get it and post to this thread.

Travlee, thanks for the shop advice. I'll look into it. Thankfully this z has 90,000 miles on and it and never has really had to hit the shop hard for anything big.
