The engine changes from the DE to the HR. That is the most drastic difference.

Is that RJM assembly a game changer for sure??
I installed mine a few weeks ago and like it a lot. Much smoother engagement and the ability to customize to your liking makes it really nice. It's a ***** working in the footwell during the install but really worth it. I've still got the oem clutch but I've read on here that people with HDs like the drivablity the setup gives them.

Its almost a deal breaker for me because me wife will be driving it. Can you guys shed some light also anything else I may need to watch for? Is any year 350 good? Thanks everyone Hope to be aboard real soon!!
i have an 04.5 350z and it runs like a champ.....then again my car is heavily modified....

I would say look for a 350z with LOW miles......any car under any circumstance when its up their in mileage will have something go out pretty soon.....

Get the newest year with the lowest milage u can afford. I have a 06 and never had a oil problem. But u should make sure the 06 doesn't burn oil. 07-08 will be a bit more expensive, but people love the engine. I bought the 06 Becuase it was the lowest mileage and year I could afford at the time. Either way, if u can find any clean low limage Z, u won't be dissapointed.

I drove another one tonight with the stillen clutch in it and it was much much better. Wife also wants to look at a g35, I know this is a z forum but what do you guys think of them? I am very nervous now about getting an oil burner, is the 04 motor although down on hp a more reliable engine than the 05-06 and the 07-08 by far the best? I take it they are the exact same motor setups in the g and the z correct?

In regards to the 350Z

Years 2003-2005 (excluding the anniversary model) have the DE engine. Which is reliable, has less HP compared to future models but more torque. Pretty reliable when N/A with no big time issues.

Years 2005 (Anniversary only) and 2006 have the Rev Up engine which has a little higher red line, and a little more HP. This year / model is known to drink oil and can be a true headache. I once had an 06 and it was fine and randomly started burning 3.5-4 quarts every 3k miles. I'd personally advise avoiding this model but, that is because I had a bad experience.

Years 2007 to 2008 have the HR (Higher Revving) motor, dual intakes, and just an overall revamp. They fixed a lot of little issues along with providing an awesome car. Personally, and most members on here will agree, it's best to save up a little longer or wait until you can find this year.

G35's are basically a 350Z with backseats. They have the same engines, although I am trying to remember based on memory I think the Rev Up engine is in the manual sedan years 05-06, and in the manual coupes 05-07. Automatics kept the DE engine. You should double check the information regarding the G35 engines though.

I like G35's my aunt had a coupe, and a different uncle (not married to spoken of aunt) had a sedan. In my opinion the Z is more sporty in terms or looks and feel, while the G is more luxury (which makes sense since that's what the point of Nissan / Infiniti is). So it truly depends what you're looking for in a car. But I love my Z very much and am planning on getting a G35 sedan in November as a daily once Z turns to my project car.

If you have any other questions just let us know.

Thats a good thread for you too check out. Although its comparison is a 08 nismo its gets the point across is well written and by someone who actually owns both newer and older 350z.

G35 coupe is a bad *** car. Little more weight but has a back seat. They are also available in awd something that would come in handy if its a daily driver. Also g37 is nice and can probably be found for much less then a 370z both of them have a updated 3.7 motor.

Great read! My concern is ultimately with what will provide reliability and not eat oil.. Is it safe to say without ruffling feathers that an 04 motor has better reliability than 05-06 and the 07-08 have also proven themselves? From my reading I am scared away from 05-06

Please read what I said about the years. Only the 05 Anniversary edition has the rev up motor. The rest are the DE. All the 06's have the Rev Up though. 07-08 is the best option if possible.

I don't know your plans for the car but if you have any future plans for forced induction, the de's seem to have more options than the hr.

Default new potential owner question

Only the manual 06s have oil issues, the autos do not have this issue.

Auto did not have the rev up, something to consider.

I guess I forgot that about the autos not having the Rev Up. Oops. It's been a while haha. Thanks for clearing that up for me though.

Well guys pulled the trigger today, an 04 g35 6mt coupe, original owner, no winter, stored in heated factory (his) , Brembo package, only 60,000 kms! Charcoal color w black leather, new Michelin pilots, certified and etested for $13,500 Canadian! A couple grand more than I wanted to spend on an 04 but I feel for good reason. Guess I should join a g forum any ideas?.

Well done! Welcome to the extended family. 3 years ago I picked up my 03 touring with 43k for 13,500. Can't believe its been that long already. Exciting times. It's a fun platform to drive. And to dump money into for mods. Speaking of which, what's your first step to make it your G?
