Tick Tick help?
hey guys so im coming from a boosted A4 so I am new when it comes to Jap cars(First Jap car and its a Z!) if anyone can help me with this ticking noise i just purchased the car oil looks clean i added some marvel mystery oil to clean the engine a bit but no luck. The ticking noise is coming from the the back end(top part) of the manifold passenger side i believe that's what its called but its really loud! i cruise and it ticks faster as i go. The guy said it was a lifter i may be mechanically inclined to do the replacement as long as the engine does not need to be pulled i don't have a engine jack if anyone can guide me or give me a link on how to open the engine up piece by piece? thanks

The video definitely sounds as though the noise is coming from the lifters. I’m guessing, but I’d bet the valves and camshaft are damaged. This is not a common problem with this engine so I suspect the previous owner abused the engine (e.g., overheating, low engine oil, etc.).
One thing for sure… It’s going to be an expensive repair.

that engine ticking doesnt sound good at all........take it back to where you bought it and ask for your money back lol....
sure....
disconnect all vacuum hoses from intake manifold
remove intake manifold
remove both valve covers
remove all front pulleys
remove front timing cover case
remove timing chain
remove both top cases on both banks
remove rear timing cover case
remove camshaft brackets
remove camshaft sprockets
remove camshafts
then remove all hydraulic lifters with a pick tool do not use a magnet its not very strong
replace all of them with new oem hydraulic lifters. make sure you do 1 row at a time to not get confused that exhaust hydraulic lifters are different than intake hydraulic lifters...
do everything in reverse order and buy some grey RTV good luck LOL.
make sure you buy a breaker bar and a cheater pipe and have a second person holding the camshaft with a crescent wrench while you break the bolt off the camshaft sprocket LOL
