Looking for a new Z
So I've had my gray '06 rev-up 6MT Z for 3.5 years now. It's been a blast to drive. It has never broken down on me or given me any trouble at all, not even oil issues. The only mods on it are an S2K antenna (I think) and a pop charger I put on it for giggles just the other day.
I'm in the market for a new Z. My plan is to initially put on mild bolt ons (intake/exhaust) while preparing for an FI build. Goals are a conservative 450-500whp.
My question is: 35HR Z or just get a 370?
Price of the car is not really an issue. I love how the 07/08 Z's look. I love the engine. I love the car. I love the 370's interior and engine, but the exterior is iffy. Current Nismo bodykits are pretty good looking, but a basic 370 just looks strange.
The only reason I ask is because I'm planning on investing quite a lot in this car, which is why I'm looking for a newer, lower mileage Z than my own. That way I can get more out of my work and effort for longer.
I had always planned on simply upgrading to an 07/08 and going at it from there, but now I've been put in the position where I could easily get a 370 and compromise nothing. Would it be worth it?
PS I know this has been discussed before, but the 350 is aging and I need some 2016 input. Thanks!

Get a super low millage nismo 350z. I just got my 2008 with 14k miles for 19k. Bolt on for bolt on the HR trails the Vhr by like 10ish HP. and can hit 320+ on N/A. You also wont have VVEL witch all race teams swap heads to get rid of.
Whats your budget. Prople who tend to say, "money isnt an issue" change their minds when presented with a quote of 30k+....
Nismo 370z 500whp and call it done. But thats around 50-60k+ depending the indepth of the build.

Why would you want to get the same car? I would just upgrade your current car, or get into something that has the 400hp your looking for in stock form.
If you have high miles ls swap could make all your dreams come true.

I say get an 07-08 nismo and tweak the 370z fast intentions twin turbo kit to accompany the HR. 500whp on stock engine is easilly possible. 550 is where people start bending rods. I forsee that all being right uner 30k

For the FI, 10-15K at least. Back in the day, anyway. Is that still a realistic estimate?
And whatever happens, those numbers are guidelines. It would be a bad idea to have a budget that is the maximum you can support.
As for an ls swap, I think I'd rather save that for another platform
To be honest, I just really want an HR. So, VHR or nah?
Of course a Nismo has crossed my mind.. But I want different wheels and the nismo v2 bodykit.
Well, for the car, it's not an issue. The build's budget is different. For wheels/bodykit/suspension, I'd say $8-10k.

Not much has stock 400 except muscle cars, and yeah that's not happening lol

Typical hr is around 10-15k around me. (With decently low miles)
Turbo kit is about 5-8k (cheaper if used, but i dont like used parts) fuel pump is another 100, injectors (likely needed for 500 since a turbo kit might not support that hp.) 3-500.
Clutch kit is going to be around 1000, more if you want better quality. Tuning software and tune is around another 2000. Guages is around another 1000, cheaper if you dont want that many, but the basic 3 alone was around 500 for me.
Oil cooler or oil pan spacer is around another 200. Various unaccounted knick knacks, lets say 1000. So thats roughly ~14k just to get it running and thats just the basic. So its probably going to be around 20kish when said and done. More if youre not doing the labor.
If you have 30k lying around and feel like you need 500hp I'd look here

Don't take this the wrong way I love my 350Z and while I feel it could use a bit more HP, before I dumped that much $ into it I'd buy something that would be worth what I spent on it in the event someone crashes into me and totals it.

Thats pretty much what I was trying to suggest but somehow mustang, and camaro came through...
Their is a reason why so many former Z owners are now 335xi owners... That M6 idea is even better though, just hope it doesn't break down...
Side note I love when people are bragging about how much horsepower their car has when they dont even run and need to be towed.

I'm all about modding cars but when searching for that much more HP (almost 50%) There are better more affordable ways to get a high HP street car nowadays. However I think 3-350 is more than enough for a primarily street driven car. Not to mention there are tons of guys out every weekend having fun at the track in Mazda Miatas (HP isn't everything) I strive to be a better driver in a slower car than a medicore driver in a super fast car
you know, i loved my z but came to the realization that i wasnt going to get real whp without dropping a lot of cash into it, so i sold it and got another kind of Z.
i still catch myself looking at 350's when i pass them, they are good looking and fun cars... but when i romp on the gas and hear that big 7 liter roar, i don't miss the nissan.
good luck in whatever you choose

400 HP for less than 30k near bullet proof and def hard to beat for the $$

There's a lot of wisdom giving you opinions, OP. The bottom line is that there are many alternative choices. You'd be well to entertain all of them.
However, if you are like me and the only car I really want to own is a Z (or Infiniti derivative)... and then another.... and another and so on... (See my .sig) then here's my opinion....
If you are truly on the fence about a late model HR Z33 versus a Z34, well, frankly, you can't go wrong with either for different, varying reasons. See this for why I'd choose a 370:

In addition to that, there's still a lot of selection of models because it's still produced. There are some downsides like the fact that aftermarket support is still about 10:1 in favor of the Z33 but....the important things for a 370 ARE available.
Good luck choosing.

I know it's a lot of money, but it's not just about the money. It's something I've always wanted to do, and something I can now do. This thread isn't about whether or not turboing is worth it or what other car I should get - although I do appreciate the opinions - It's about whether the build would be better worth doing on a 350z vs a 370z. IMO, a 370 would make more sense, but the 350z is just more appealing to my tastes. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy.
I understand a lot of people think they're going to buy a Z, throw a couple turbos in there, and make 600 at the wheels and call it a day. I fully understand it's not that easy. That's why I want to do it.

If u already owned a 350, why not just go with the 370? I mean it's faster, newer body, handles better. Pretty much all around better than 350. Unless u really love the style of the 350. But if I'm getting another sports car I would just move up to 370.
Yes. Keep it and go FI. I also own a rev up. No oil consumption. The car is paid off and I paid 14k. I've owned for 5 years and only had about 56k miles on it. Going SC route I would probably spend 8k total with parts and tune. Should be making 400whp easily with total money spent 24k on the whole car and everything.
