Default The story of my Z

Hello all I am new to the forum and going to write a small book on the progress of my Z build. So if you dont like to read exit now haha. Ive worked on a few Z33's in the past at a local performance shop and i absolutely fell in love with them. this was 10 years ago and ive been wanting to get into one ever since. So 6 months ago i finally found "the car". it looked completely stock but what was to come was nothing short of awesome. first i noticed the fmic online and saw 2 air filters one on each side. So i went to look at the car and just had to buy it. all i new about the car at the dealer was that it had a twin turbo kit. Stock exhaust stock, stock suspension, no gauges, no oil cooler, no catch can, basically bone stock besides the turbo kit. Bought the car for 8k. clean title 82k miles and 6 speed. After some digging and tearing the car apart to find out what has all been done i did a compression test 135 psi throughout (which i thought was very low) and a iridium spark plug change i snuck a bore scope into the drain plug hole and found that the engine was fully built! Sleeved block CP pistons and couldnt see a name on the side of the connecting rods but they definitely were not stock ARP L19 head and main studs. which i was ecstatic about! Then i decided to read the serial plates on the turbos which are upgraded 20g's also another win. So since then i have done exhaust, oil catch can, aem gauges and boost controller, hotchkis springs and sway bars, tilton twin disc clutch, aluminum radiator, fan shroud, oil cooler, and replaced all sensors. Now im on the path to do the fuel system and turn the car up until something stops it. I will be tuning with uprev and running VP 100 unleaded. Ill update and post my dyno numbers when im done on the dyno! Thanx for reading all!

In for pics and updates. Curious who would install a turbo kit without doing exhaust, but sounds like a great find!

I didn't go through the spark plug hole I went through the oil drain plug hole and fished the bore scope around the windage tray. Can any one tell me how to post pics here? I'm kind of a cave man to technology. Lol

Wow! Good find. Someone has a whole lot more than $8k invested in that car. Looking forward to updates.

Hopefully I will have the fuel system together and get it on the dyno in the next month or so. Gonna do the aeromotive stealth 340 lph pump and cjm stage 2 return kit and it has FIC 775cc injectors. Looking for 650-700 whp which should be plenty for the street and the occasional track day.

For sure! Looks like you got a hell of a deal on this one. Body seems to be in great shape as well.

Invest in some new wheels so you can get some wider tires. 18x8's limits your ability to put power to the ground.

Already on it man!

[I]Ssr gt3's 19x9 front 19x 10.5 rear. Gonna add nitto nt05r's. I got a good deal on them $255. They are beat up and need restoration but those in black chrome will look awesome on the car. Even came with tires for some smokey ones 😎

I'm envious you found a turbo'd Z for $8k. I thought my buddy scored a fantastic deal when he got his fully built TT '03 touring with 55k miles and 6MT for $15k...but you may have come across the best deal I've seen.

Ya I couldn't pass it up. I suspected when I bought it that it had a built motor because there was fresh silicone on the front timing cover and upper/lower oil pan. Also looked inside the oil cap and the cylinder head was way to clean to have 82k. After the compression test I decided to purchase a bore scope to confirm it was built. Glad I did because I didn't want to push it any harder if it didn't at least have rods and pistons. Now knowing what I know I pretty much stole the car and it's time for all the supporting mods! All said and done I think I'll have about 11-12k invested in the car total. Try to build a 700hp car for that price including the price of the car. Pretty hard to do but not impossible.

Finally got the wheels back from powder coat which turned out amazing! Black chrome on the lips and barrels and flat black in the center. Also got the aeromotive 340 pump installed and the wideband installed.
