Space under seat?
OK, couldn't decide whether to post this in General or Audio/Video....
My kid wants to add a modest subwoofer to his car. Doesn't want to follow dad's lead in using the driver-aft "Bose chamber". (No, his '07 does NOT have Bose.... that pocket is emptier than my head.)
So quick question - cuz I'm too lazy to yank my own seat to check - Anyone offhand know if there's 3" of clearance under passenger seat to enable a slim, powered sub to live under there like a troll under a bridge?
Yes, yes, I've advised against it but who knows, might work... and probably easiest install. (Gotta be easier than when I put my system together.... fehh....)

Mic,
If I understand your question correctly the answer is no, a sub in that small of a space will really not move much air. It would be a very flat tone. Subs are typically placed in an enclosure with a passive port as they move a lot of air.

Sup, Mike. Long time!
Detailed Image did a promo, stocked up on Chemical Guys "Back to Black" restorer, works great on the little sail- pieces on side mirrors and fender liners.
Hope you're doing great, my friend! Stay warm, we're right at 32F in ATL.

Nice, yeah its it's real chilly out tonight, today I was cleaning up some seat brackets... I sprayed them with simple green went and got some paper towels and went to wipe it off and it was frozen.
I got a hose set, and a lightweight pulley, but the pulley is getting returned I think...
32 in the ATL thats arctic blast for Georgia. We had a high of 30 today but also had 30mph winds so it felt super cold.

And for Mic, I have my USX-2100 two-channel amp mounted under the PS seat and it barely fits under there. Putting a subwoofer in that location isn't a good idea IMO.

Wow, really??? Holy sh*t, I can't believe I just read that. I am 6'-200, All City running back in high school....guess I'm not normal. Oh wait, my kids, with son at 5'10" and daughter at 5'8" must not be either. Excuuuuuse the he** out of us for not conforming to stereotype.
Well, maybe I'm not making this clear.... talking about one of those small, self contained amp/speaker units that are *designed* for under seat use..... but probably more like the seats in sedans/SUV/trucks, not sporty two seaters.
Something like this...
But no matter, the kid don't get to make the decision since its one of his Christmas presents. Plus, now I get to install it. Laff.... and I'll put it where I dang well please.
Which is into the Bose cavern.
So anyways, the seat idea was ruled out over dinner with him couple hours ago. Thanks, guys.

Not sure where you're getting your stereotypes from, but I'm of "normal" Asian extraction and stand almost 6' tall. There's plenty of Asian guys my size around, particularly the younger ones.

And thanks for the info.... that's all I needed to hear.

Well my bad my wife has been feeding me poor information for years, she claims any Asian over 5'5" has a mutated gene like yao Ming. But she is 5'1" so maybe she is just short and trying to make excuses.
Didn't mean to offend anyone I love Asians even married one...
She said you guys could be part of the avengers, and your super power is reaching things.

Yup, that's where we agreed to put it. But unlike my free-air/5-ch amp set-up, ordered a powered sub and power distribution block; will be mounting it in the Bose cavern. Not going for a serious punch set up, just need something to fill in the sub-150 area where the current (but upgraded) mid/tweets drop off that I installed for him a year ago along with mains amp.
At least I had the presence of mind to pre-wire it (remote turn-on and low-levels) for an additional amp/sub at that time. Just need to call the yard for a Bose panel. Plug n' play, hopefully.

Only drawback thus far was having to find a sub that could slip through the factory "Bose hole" to avoid any sheet metal modification. Not a huge deal but it did limit the selection. (I hate cutting anything on my family's cars.)
Only other thing I don't like about stuffing stuff into the Bose cavern is adjustments (other than the bass gain via the remote). But I'll tune the x-over points and phase best as I can upon install then leave the rest up to the kid. At least he won't have to remove the speaker itself to adjust anything.
