Default So I turned off my VDC yesterday....

I have my Z for a week now. It was a bit rainy most of the time and I kept my VDC on for that, and following some sage advice from members here to get used to the car's temperament.

Yesterday, the roads were dry, so I took it off. Very nice cornering, it is just a pleasure to throw that tail a bit going into a twistie. The Z performed remarkably well and honestly the driving was 10 times as fun than with the VDC on.

Are there threads you recommend discussing driving techniques in general and with the Z in particular, or links etc etc?

When you engage in aggressive spirited driving, when do you choose to turn off the VDC and when do you choose to turn it on?

Just find any of the "I crashed" threads.

The only thing I suggest is always put smooth inputs to the car and she will behave fine. Don't slam the accel pedal in the middle of a turn, that seems to be the way everyone is crashing their Z's. And if yu can at least try on track event so you can ush the car and see how far you can push it and how.

I'm not sure what people are talking about with the Z's temperament without VDC. I have the enthusiast model so it just came with TCS with no VDC. I use the daily driven car monthly or more on autocross (with TCS off) and the car has an understeer bias. I've only spun once in a snap oversteer condition that was my fault (let off the throttle).

For autox or track events, you have to turn the VDC or TCS off or you'll get stuck in a lurch lurch head banging crescendo of looking like a driving idiot while your car attempts to drive for you.

Westpak is right...don't mash the throttle in the middle of the turn but that's something you should know regardless of VDC or any other electronic gizmo. Don't brake or let go of the throttle (smooth application of throttle is important here) during a fast corner either...this immediately shifts load creating oversteer bringing your rear out...another fundamental of driving regardless of any electronic vehicle control.

Look for any kind of driving event to practice in a safe environment. You can do something as simple as a skidpad in an open parking lot just going round and round progressively faster to feel the understeer at particular speeds...basically getting used to the car by feeling. Just have fun...it is a lot of fun.

This whole VDC thing is funny. I mean after reading all the stories of people that have been "surpised" after turning the vdc off.

Like any other vehicle, this car won't do anything scary unless you make it. If you want to be able to spin the rear tires and power slide the back end, then shut the VDC. But if you are relying on it to protect you, you probably aren't ready for more than a four cylinder.

And this is not an attack on anyone. Flipping the switch simply doesn't make a Hyundai suddenly have a v12 engine.

I agree with the last posters. I kept it orginally to see what it does. When I took it off I felt like I was really driving. With it, it felt "toyish" and limiting.

Thanks for your input,
