Exclamation Why does my 350z sound like a tractor?

Someone told me to replace my fuel pressure damper, could this be the fix? Just wanting some more opinions before I go out and spend more money on unnecessary parts. I have made two videos of what my car sounds like here:
and here:

Yikes!.Do you have oil in your engine?!?
Try draining your oil to see if you have any metal shavings in there.Thats def not a fuel damper noise

haha of course I do.
I have also had an oil change and its been serviced recently.
Even my mechanic is stumped as to what it could be. I think he just doesn't want to pull it apart.

To me it sounds like a valvetrain noise but without being there in person it's very hard to say

Doesn't mean the techs remembered to fill the crankcase. (Or tighten the drainplug.) Seen it happen. And that's exactly what an oil starved engine sounds like.

Why should your mech be hesitant? He doesn't want labor $$?

Other thought, you got a loose spark plug? Sounds like that too. Does the noise go up with the revs? Disappear? Get louder?

Well, good luck with tracking that down. Sounds like the shid of impending doom, sorry to say.

Mechanic looked nervous so maybe he knew it wouldn't be worth fixing or something.

Spark plug, interesting.. I'll add that one to my list.

Cheers

Have you been driving like a retard to make it sound like this?

Is it throwing any codes?

Possibly

As for the codes, the computer won't get a signal to get any codes. So if you can fix that also then that would be sweet.

Okay you have to give us more of the story...

Did your mechanic do an oil change and then this noise started immediately after?

Was the noise always there from when you got the car and just got worse?

The only way we can help you on the internet is to get all the facts.

No, it won't even connect to a computer to show the codes

The noise has been happening for a long time so I cant remember whether it happened after an oil change. It may have happened after it over heated a long time ago.

When I first bought the car it had an overheating problem but then I got it fixed by putting liquid glass in the radiator.

I have had so many people give me all different reasons why it might be making the noise. Just have nail it down to the source. I have watched a few youtube videos that have the same problem and a lot of them say to change the fuel pulsation damper.

Great reply. I'm still giggling.

About your question: It sounds like the noise is coming from the lifters. I believe that these are self adjusting on the 350z, so the problem might be caused by the camshaft.
  1. Do you know if the engine has ever been over-heated?
  2. Do you notice a white color in the exhaust?
I know how frustrating this can be. Please keep us posted if you find the solution. --Spike

Please Don't throw any more parts at the car until you've confirmed whether or not you're gonna need a rebuild. Also try checking all of your fuses for the no communication issue. Is it misfiring in the video?

Hi Spike!
Thank's for your opinions.
I do believe that one of the cyclinders in the engine are warped and may need reboring but whether that is the problem I'm not sure. There used to be white fumes coming out of the exhaust but that was a while ago. Not so sure now. When you say colour in the exhaust do you really mean inside the exhaust like stuck on the inside? or the smoke?

Thank's NissanZcrazy, I will check the fuses.

It's so frustrating that no mechanic in my area wants to have a look at it unless they pull the whole engine down and charge me a fortune.

I created a new video just today to see if the sound has improved over time. Still sounds a little off.

Yea I have no idea. Could be so many rotating parts in there.

And from those Home Depot hose clamps that z has had a hard life.

Is that the timing chain slapping around the cover? Or did you drop rocks into your valve cover?
