Yes, it felt evil and wrong but I did enjoy it so.
The 405 in SOCAL was empty (rare) and up along my left side comes a 2001 Mustang Cobra and along my right side a new 2003 Mustang GT. They both sit there riding my sides for a full minute. Kept looking over at me, rev'in.
I am like...."oh boy". 3 months ago it would have been me in the Stang.
We were rolling around 75mph. I dropped to 3rd, then to 4th rather quickly. I killed the GT; he never caught up. The Cobra managed to catch up but never got next to me again. He was stuck riding my rear quarter. We topped out around 108 before he gave up.
I only did it because it was late and no one was on the 5 lanes of joy layed out in front of us. I usually don't do this sort of thing.

Pretty sure it was gearing keeping him from passing. And maybe [*****]. We were hitting 105. Hahahah
2001 ones were slower than the '02s and for sure the '03s. Those are supercharged!

This is the key, rolling start, not from a standstill. Their higher torque lets them hook up easier than our car, it seems. Great fun for one time on the darkside.

Higher torque makes it harder to hook up from a dig. The fact of the matter is that the Z just isnt a drag car: the suspension geometry (i believe some anti-squat was built in?) makes it difficult to launch the Z, explaining all the wheel hop people complain about. The Mustang however is and always has been more drag than track oriented, and was designed as such.

I can't go for a live rear end, I had a 1982 GT with 4 shocks on the rear axle 2 vertical like normal and 2 horizontal to try to control the axle's bump steer, but it didn't work well and I hate bump steer. I don't want the rear kicking out from under me going around a fast corner, next I'd be exiting the road butt first, never again.
