. . . although I've been lurking for awhile - great forum with lots of good info.

I had been looking for a '07 350Z (recommended by Consumer Reports) to complement my '73 MGB roadster when the weather turns bad here in Indiana.
I found one on craigslist - practically in my backyard. It was pretty much pristine - a base model - with only 37K miles on the clock. It was the previous-owner's only car. She stated is was not a "winter car" and decided to sell. I did pay (too much for it).
It feels like a true sports car - similar to the MG - but much more faster and powerful. I did not like the clutch (not nearly as easy to use as the MG's) so I installed an RJM adjustable clutch pedal which helped. The only other mod was to add KYB shock mount kits - to get rid of the "clunk" in the rear (worked - found the idea here).
Yes, the sound system is poor - radio is tinny-sounding / CD player is better. I do wish the car wasn't so heavy (for a two-seater it's about 1300# more than the MGB).

Welcome!

I love it.... "MGB" and "350Z" in the same comparative sentence. Never seen that juxtaposition before. Heck, we even wear these in the DATSUN ROADSTER community...

Hahahahahaha, no hate - other than being told "Hey, nice MG."

I am old enough to remember when British cars were sold new in their respective dealerships. As high school student, I would visit the dealers and lust after those cool cars. While I don't recall the sticker prices or options, I have never forgotten the drip pans positioned beneath the cars in showrooms to catch the oil dripping from engines of new cars. Apparently, customers had slipped on leaking oil and this did not encourage the sale of cars or the cost of their liability insurance.

After owning a "Z" for 14 years (and spending only $400 on parts during that time), I can tell you that you'll be pleasantly surprised that it can be driven daily without maintenance issues. In fact, I've spent less on my "Z" than I have did with my Toyota Corolla.

Aloha ! And welcome.
I’ve got a 1964 Volvo 1800 not too dissimilar from your MG. Have to say my Z roadster gets a lot more seat time. Cheers!

Best looking Volvo ever. When I was a brick fan in the early '90s, the 1800 was already a cult car. Have several friends who still have theirs in various stages of tune from bone stock to one with a warmed B230FT under hood. It scoots....

And that's in the USofA, not in Sweden where the modded-Volvo crowd is just plain nuts. Not many Zs I know could successfully run with some of the 500-ponies-to-the-pavement mom-mobiles. Haha!

I had a 1968 MGB GT. I loved driving this car. It was heavier than the MGB roadster, but still offered decent acceleration and top speed of 105 mph.

The car’s best features:
  • The transmission with a great clutch provided short and crisp shifting.
  • Although the suspension was a primitive design (by today’s standards), the car handled extremely well. It had perfect balance (no over or under steer, but rather neutral in corners), aided by its light weight.

On the downside:
  • MG equipped its cars with Lucas gauges (dashboard displays) that were notoriously unreliable to the point Lucas was labeled “The Prince of Darkness.”
  • The car did not meet USA emissions standards and required some “add on” parts to the engine that resembles plumbing fixtures. The main disadvantage to the crude additions was a significant loss of power.
  • The car was generally unreliable (especially the engine and its additional parts, fuel pump, water pump, etc.). I actually carried an extra fuel pump in the trunk after being stranded twice by a failure of this component.
