Why does everyone dislike the 350Z?

Its always about.. "but if you had a turbo"... but I don't have a turbo.. so F off...

It's like a huge novelty. I guess it was a huge advantage in the eighties (compact euro up and coming heyday) for smaller engine cars and now it's just tradition for them. However, even Audi is starting to loosen it up and going N/A in the infamous S4.
I love N/A but I told my buddies I'll whip out the plastic for a twin turbo when they can all keep up.

For the most part, these are car guys and I'm a bigtime Japanese sports/GT car guy. They all know that and have seen my previous cars.
I couldn't tell you why they hated it (secretly, apparently), but they were definitely happy when I sold it for a WRX. They ALL like the WRX more. Maybe its because they think a 4-door is more of a sleeper. I don't know. All I know is that's what happened.
The Z was definitely NOT out of character for me.

Some "compact sedan enthusiast" guys I know don't like the "non-sleeper" aspect of our cars. Theres too much hype around the Z and alot of folks have the need to de-mystify it. That's totally fine.
I'm sure as time passes, and more tuned Z's are on the street, we won't get judged by our stock counterparts. The variables will be endless...giving it more tuner credibility.
oh god..did I make any sense?

I was browsing the S2000 and RX8 boards a little while ago, and the general impression I got was that these owners can't stand the 350Z, saying it's slow and not very nice quality.
I've heard bad things about the RX8 rotary, so wouldn't even consider that car. I was also interested in the S2000, but decided I didn't really want a convertable so didn't drive one. Has anyone driven either one of these cars? How do they compare to the Z?

ive driven the s2k and the rx-8 and own a 350z...
the rx-8 handles very well with the 50/50 weight ratio but in order to have fun with it u gotta hit the twisties or rev the sh*t outta it.. not to mention the 1.3 liter and no torque...
the s2k is a solid car.. fun to drive and handles well... but the torque just wasnt enough for me... and its very small... for someone who is 6'2" i dont really feel comfortabe in it... but u gotta love the v-tech
the z to me is everything im lookin for... torque is great hp great.. and its a fantastic plaform for upgrading and personalizing.. and i just love being slammed back in my seat everytime i down shift...
but IMO all three are great cars... but the z is the SH*T

Jon, $600/wk is a lot for a kid. Especially when he doesn't have to pay rent or any other expenses. That is with the presumption that he is a kid.

I'm not concerned with the money he'd be making (good for him) but with the circumstances under which all of what he said falls. It's a mess waiting to happen. I didn't want to say a word, since he's going to have to deal with it anyway, but oh well. I won't delve any deeper than that.

Mitsu F'd up big time when they got rid of the AWD turbo setup in the Eclipse. I would have bought a GSX again if there was one available in 2003.
Now, I've got a Z instead and couldn't be happier. I do miss the 300hp (slightly modded) and AWD in the winter though.
At least the 2nd generation Eclipse was easy to look at. The EVO has 0 class though I do love its performance.
Elmer.

Oh, I don't expect Mitsu to last another five years. Their entire lineup is god-awful and doesn't even begin to compete with Nissan, Toyota, and Honda, and they don't have a niche like Subaru does. They're losing a ton of money and there's probably going to be another management change. Basically, their only strong suite is the Evo, and though it's a great car, it's not (and never will be) a high-volume one. The only thing really saving Mitsubishi right now is the Eclipse, and I'm no fan of that car.
Not to mention, most of the Evo boys, once they sell their Evos, they're not coming back to Mitsubishi, not only because they have nothing to offer, but because they're screwing over people on warranties on the Evo. In short, that might make fiscal sense, but it discourages brand loyalty.

The rumors are that the 4th generation Eclipse will be more like the 2nd generation with possible AWD and a lighter curb weight. So far they are just rumors generated by the latest concept car. If true, the 4th generation might be a better successor and take off where the 2nd generation left off.
I have no hopes or confidence in Mitsu, though. They need to make some drastic corporate changes to keep on selling cars.

The new concept car does hold a little bit of promise.
I find the hybrid thing a bit gadgety but at least they are trying. Styling is a bit over the edge but I am sure I will get used to it.
Their timing with the demise of the 2G was terrible. Just as affordable performance cars were entering the market, they removed one of the best ever bangs for the buck.
Oh well. The end result is that I got a Z. Life could be worse I suppose.

For me I like them both as well, however for some reason I feel more at home with the s2k, maybe its because of the drop top, or maybe because its the 9k redline I dunno. I can say that both cars filled a niche and if my particular z didnt have so many problems I still would have it.

we should start a buddy system, where each Z member has to become friend's with one S2000 and one RX-8 member, then in the end we can all be happy...
i'm kidding.
But i don't hate anyone, i like all three, actually. And if an S2000 or RX-8 beats me, then i don't have a problem with losing.
