Duals vs single exit?
08' 350z HR 6 spd
I bought a 2008 HR. It has aftermarket dual exaust. It's loud, & at higher rpm's I don't like the sound. I haven't put it on a lift, but I can't find any name anywhere. I see a lot of Z's with the single exit exaust. Is it better, personal preference, what?
Thanks!

The exhaust on the car you bought looks like an HKS replica exhaust. As for being "better" I guess it depends on how you look at it.
The previous responses do bring up good points.
Honestly what it's going to come down to is YOUR personal preference. There's dual exhausts that provide good performance but there's even more single exhausts that do it for cheaper. A lot of people prefer the dual look to keep everything proportioned in the rear and don't like the huge single exhausts. A bumper tuck will clean up the rear end when running a single exhaust though.

If you still want to replace the cat back, https://www.z1motorsports.com/exhaus...m-p-12120.html This is a remake of the original S-Tune but likely (too new to know) that it won't make any additional power over stock as it doesn't come with the real power making section of the original, the Y-Pipe. It sounds good though. A bit louder than stock and also retains the "VQ sound".
The other go-to exhaust systems that aren't terribly obnoxious: Invidia Gemini (dual) and Motordyne TDX2. Both sound good, minimal power gains without tune but quality systems at their price points.

Sweet baby Jesus - when I went from my stillen true dual to my single aluminum w/Ypipe I drop 60lbs ... I just about nut'd myself
Since you mention the dual exhaust is loud, and you don't like the sound, I would recommend finding a better dual exhaust. A single exit is going to have one muffler, as opposed to two, so will be louder at high rpm's. I think you have some options though. It does look like an HKS type exhaust on your z. You could sell it cheap to buy something you want, trade for stock exhaust, or you could install some resonators to tone it down. I would listen to sound clips on youtube, read some reviews, and also see what exhaust your z has before making any decisions.
I might be grasping at straws with this idea, but I'd get it up on jacks, and see if the prior owner installed test pipes (decats). If so, installing high flow cats would definitely help.

2) Your exhaust may not have a muffler on it, which could be why it's louder.
3) 350z's are V6, they have higher pitched sounds, unlike the low growls you hear from V8s.
4) a stock 350z is hella loud as well...
I guess I haven't heard a lot of loud 350z's cuz there ain't many around where I live & work. The one's you see usually seem stock. There's a few that have aftermarket exhaust. I'm going to the muffler shop tomorrow, & I'm going to see what's under there.
