Default Need advice on a purchase!

I've been on the search for ages now for a clean G35/350z. I came across a G35 in my hometown being sold by a man who has not listed it for sale anywhere, he just had an empty for sale sign. From what I know the older gentleman does not really want to sell the car, but he just splurged on a new M class BMW, and needs to sell it. The car is a 2005 6mt, with 200,000 miles. It is a one owner, and the man drives the PCH every day to work which may explain the high mileage. This car is EXTREMELY CLEAN, inside and out. I've checked out a few G35's and 350z's and none of them compare to exterior/interior condition of this one, it truly is very very clean. The older gentleman started modding the car as well, and it seems to be all of the highest quality components, he has TE37sl's on the car (which are real not reps) , he has Michelin pilot sport 4s tires on the car, Stoptech big brake kit, BC Coilovers, SPC Camber kit, a aluminum Mishimoto radiator, Greddy Exhaust, Hotchkis sway bars, and a Jim Wolf pop charger with carbon fiber intake tube, and . For the transmission he has a Jim Wolf 14lb flywheel and clutch, the car also has every option from the factory. His price is 6000$, which is below my budget, but the car is exactly how I would've spec'd it myself. Black outside, black leather interior. Im just concerned with the mileage being so high, I am working so I will have money in the future for maintenance or swapping the motor, but is it worth buying with the mileage? What should I be concerned/looking out for? Like I said he doesn't really wanna sell it, more of his wife forcing him sort of deal, and he has taken immaculate care of the car but im still slightly worried. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you

(Also planning on negotiating price down to around 5000$)

Paint Condo is great
Interior is immaculate

No way would I buy that car. I got an HR with 100k miles for $8k. If you plan on dropping an engine in it then go ahead. Otherwise, keep looking

My suggestion? Get a full mechanical Inspection so you can see what you're facing. At 6k and with the goodies you mentioned, a satisfactory inspection will be worth the couple hundred you spend on it.

At the very minimum, I would source a low mileage engine and, if possible, a trans, and change bushings, shocks (if needed) and perform a tune up.

Again, get an inspection and see what you have.

Buy it. It’s owned by a twice mentioned “older gentleman” and everyone knows that old guys rule.

By the way, what constitutes an “older gentleman” anyways?

And please don’t double post.

When I was a teenager I thought 30 was old haha. I think the working definition is someone over twice one's age. So everyone but Mic off my lawn. Kid ding.
@ OP- it sounds like this might be your 1st car purchase? A vehicle with 200K on the clock will be needing parts replaced so you've got 2 choices.
1) $$$ set aside to pay for repairs or
2) time and $$$ available to buy tools and learn to do the work yourself.

I personally don't have any interest in buying a car whose useful life is mostly consumed. 02

Age is a state of mind.

Why else would I be doing stuff a "younger gentleman" does for kicks?

Just wish my body followed in the footsteps of my mind. Har!

But ya, 200k is a fair bit of mileage. Might be good that it was highway driven a lot versus in the city but still....

I mean aren’t those rims and tires worth 2500 alone? You could part the stuff u mentioned out for prolly 3500-4000 or so

Rims and tires retail are almost 4k, let alone the other modes. Sorry for offending anyone? The connotation of an "older man" implies that they didn't go do stupid **** at car meets and do burnouts or attempt drifting it etc. Just better ownership in general when it comes to an adult, thats why im thinking the car can go another 30-40k without many implications as i've heard from others that this man takes serious care of his car, and who wouldn't when you spend 4000$ on you wheel and tire setup alone. Anyways I appreciate all the input and any more is helpful !

$6,000 to go 30-40k miles in a sports car is a poor financial decision. That's why people are giving you a hard time.

You are right, I agree with you, but it's well bellow my budget. My thinking process is instead of spending money modding a lower mileage stock one I could spend money on rebuilding the motor with a tad more performance, if **** hits the wall with the car in terms of maintenance I could part out wheels and everything else, and then sell the car and walk away without losing much.

HA! Just givin' you a rashin'. And yer right (IMO), us older guys (and there's lots of us here) GENERALLY do things for the sake of our own satisfaction (not to please a crowd of wannabes) and don't generally abuse our cars. Not saying that the "young'uns" (those under, say, uhhhh, forty? Hahahahaha!) are all idiot hooners but just look on social media to watch what idiots do to their cars then complain "Somethin's broked, how do I fix it?" Laff.... BTW, there are "older hoons" as well so I'm not giving anyone any excuses for stupid behavior.

Anyhow, I still stand behind what many (incl myself) said.... 200k miles is older than us old guys BUT you're right, if its been regularly maintained and driven well, nothing says it can't be a good car overall. Your money, your decision.

Buying ANY car that's not limited release or collectible is a poor financial decision! It's a depreciating asset. At the end of the day everyone has their vices. Working has no meaning if you can't purchase what you want.

Go for it then. Engine swaps are a lot more than they seem though. But hey, your money, and more importantly, your time. I personally enjoy tinweking with vehicles but when it comes time to do serious work like engine swaps and tyranny rebuilds and turbo kits..... It's not really fun anymore. All of this is just my opinion.

I just don't want you to have a blown engine a year later and you end up $5k further into the hole of this car because of it and you sit there thinking "s***, I could have just bought a low mileage car for 11k already modded up like this one and I wouldn't have to do any of this work". Take care of future you.
