I'm hoping someone can answer my question. I've read that towing or pullin a rear wheel drive vehicle is really bad, and that the driveshaft has to be removed beforehand (to prevent damage). With that said...
Today, I had to get my car towed. The tow truck guy wanted to pull my Z onto the tow truck flatbed, but I let him know that it could be driven short distances, and that I'd really appreciate if we could drive it on to the bed. He didn't want to hear that...I'm pretty sure he was just an angry sob that gets triggered by anything.
He disregarded my requests 3 times, and was going to start pulling my Z onto the bed. He didn't even ask if the car was in neutral, or if the ebrake was disengaged (it was still engaged). I stepped on the tow cable, and this time I told him to stop because he was about to pull the car. He got really nasty+said I can find another tow company.
I'm glad I stopped him (b/c he didn't even think about the basics of gear+ebrake), but does anyone know if pulling the Z onto a flatbed will damage the rear differential?
I would guess that if you can push a car in neutral without damaging anything, you could tow it in neutral...but that doesn't seem to be the case with rwd cars from what I read. I tried to find info on the operation of differentals in rwd cars, but I couldn't find much to match what I was looking for. Thanks-

 

something that short isnt going to damage the drive shaft or rear diff ... you're fine.

Damage comes when you tow the car multiple multiple miles at higher speeds.
