I’ve had my touring SMB 350z for around 8 years now and only have done some transmission part upgrades and cold air intake
was gonna buy a cbr1000rr for 7k but instead decided to invest that into the z
the roof and trunk lid need to be repainted because the clear coat is coming off

and after that was planning to get some BC Racing DS coilovers
was gonna do KW v3 coilovers however I never plan to track the car and 2000+ is a bit excessive
ive heard it’s good to get camber plates to not have the inside of the tires bald out also?

I also am looking at the Invidia Gemini cat back exhaust

other than that I’m not sure what I’d wanna do for the moment
If there are other parts that are considered better or complaints on the parts I’ve listed please let me know
I’m gonna get the interior redone since it scratches from being blown on too hard
wanna make the z look like new so any advice would be appreciated

Camber plates for a Z are kinda interesting

 

If you drop, you’ll need to align so adjustable toe, camber arms in the rear, adjustable FUCA in front and if you’re going suspension, always go adjustable sway bars before anything else.

And as Trav mentions, why coilover? Good static over low end coilover 7 days a week. (Not saying those BCs are lowend, just saying that in general.) Me personally, have had a couple sets of coilovers on various Zs (earlier gens) and I have had no reason to go back because 1) Don't like the ride and... 2) Set and forget, might as well have saved the extra $400 for a set of sway bars. Have had Bilstein, Koni and Tokico (Nismo) based static suspension on my Z33 and 34s. All I've ever needed. YMMV.

 

Dont waste your money putting it into the Z. Get the bike. No 1000rr if you don't have seat time though and enough time.

 

I want coilovers so I can slightly lower the car and have better handling while driving around the city. I’ve heard coilovers will remove insterstate bob and stiffen body roll
unless there are other components that will solve all this besides coilovers?
I’ve had a Miata with coilovers and the handling difference was definitely noticeable

 

I've had tein ss springs w stock shocks for a long time and its been fine. I did just order kwv3 because I want to go a little lower and have the option of raising it if need be. Plus don't let me lie, i wanted the suspension bling, lol. I can't take Legacy's advice to you and not spend money on the Z.. I also ordered the rear camber arms so my alignment can be in spec. In the past and on another car I made the mistake of buying low end springs and that was a disaster. Then i upgraded to low end coilovers and that was just as bad w a lot of clunky sounds. Best to just buy a good quality set of whatever you are buying and not have to go back and repurchase a second time. Not saying BC Racing is cheap or bad, never owned them, and they seem to be popular among the drift crowd. The FortuneAuto 500 coilovers seem to be decent too if you want something to compare to. Plus I think the Fortune's ahve lifetime warranty and they are based in the USA.

For the paint, once you get that taken care of, just put a good sealant or coating on it and protect it so you don't experience that paint problem again. If you want any detailing advice feel free to DM me. I love taking care of car paint.

For some basic power mods, you can consider upgraded TB and a plenum spacer. Good luck with your build.

 

why does this new generation of "enthusiast" think coilovers are the only way to lower a car?
what ever happened to a nice set of shocks and lowering springs? or is it the 2 component system is too confusing.

 

Or maybe some people want the versatility of the coilover system. I've done it both ways and both worked well for me. Just have to make sure to do your homework and invest in quality parts. When I was younger I bought my fair share of cheap parts, lol. Part of living and learning.

True. But hey, some people just like having nice stuff. I don't race my car, but I still like it to look good and have nice things on it

 

right, i get that.. but for show and not go, a static setup is fine for a majority of the population

 

I have HSD true coilovers. I wanted a slight drop not slammed and they have been on my 2005 Z for 5 years without any problems. I did not have to make any changes to suspension because it was a very small drop.

Now I will defer to the experts (above) who say the car handles fine without them and that is so true. It's a personal preference.
