Default Tune for Cold Air Intake?

Hey guys

I just recently bought my first 350z ! Very nice low mileage 2005 edition. It is automatic but I got it for an amazing price and it is super tidy touring edition with Genuine work wheels, brembos etc so I can manual swap it later on.

It does have an AFE Power Takeda air intake (https://www.speedscience.co.nz/produ...33445158944867)

I think this is the one it has. I just wanted to ask if this needs a tune? I read that bigger diameter intakes can cause you to run lean if not tuned and I was always careful in the past with my previous vehicle to get most things tuned when I did work to it.

Not sure where you read that, but the ECM will compensate for an increase in airflow. No need for a tune at this point IMO.

I just read that a larger diameter intake means more air gets sucked in and because of MAF Sensor without a tune the ECU will not account for the extra air and the vehicle will run lean?

You may be thinking of a larger diameter throttle body.

It might be a little on the lean side and a tune will make the most out of the aftermarket intake, but probably not worth it right now if you plan on adding more bolt-on modifications in the near future.

Doesn't "need" a tune but the tune does make a huge difference. If you're thinking of a dyno tune then definitely wait until you have all your mods done; etuning can be easily and cheaply updated later on for more mods so I'd say go for it
