Default How many people install their own mods?

As the title says. How many of you install your own mods? Intake, pullies, plenum, headers, cats, exhaust, ect. ect. Im sure not alot of people have cracked the engine open themselves. I have just seen alot of people pay out of the *** to get simple stuff installed. Why mod a car when you don't do the work yourself?

Default Some I did, some I didn't

Some mods I did myself - grounding kit, clear front reflectors

Some w/help from friend (at his house) - CAI, polished plenum

Some w/friend at his day job @ Nissan dealership - OEM spoiler, UR pulleys

Not having access to a lift dictates spending a little $$ sometimes. Plus, I have a limited amount of free time so having some things professionally done saves me time. And sometimes I just don't want to do a mod that may have a difficulty factor of both reasons above or if I don't feel I have the expertise to pull off. I know when it comes time for headers I WILL have them done - looks like a bear of a job. I'll probably head down to Nashville & let Crawford slap the headers & hi-flo cats on.

Just my thoughts...........

Check my sig. I do everything myself, although I will have some help w/ the cats at an install meet in a few weeks. It saves money, and also gives you a greater sense of satisfaction when done. I also plan on installing my own exhaust when I get some $$$ for it. The only thing I wouldn't consider doing myself would be any internal work or the headers.

*edit* Looking at it again, I didn't install my seats or the window tint, but everything else was all me.

I own a shop so we have done them all. The borla was put on while I went to go buy sodas. In less than 30 minutes my two guys had the exhaust installed and backing out of the drive. I couldnt believe it.

All the real men (and chicks) do their own install. Doing installs on jack stands puts hair on your chest.

For me, its dependant on how motivated I am, and and how much it costs for the install. For my springs and sway bars, I did them myself. My headers and exhaust were done free by DC as a development project, but I would have had a shop do them anyways because headers are a *****. My cats were installed at Labree because I wanted extra O2 sensor bungs welded in and we had to put the cats on to see where the bungs would best be placed, plus it was only $60.

I plan to get a plenum and some more suspension parts that I will do myself.

I install all my mods myself. I think that this is one of the most enjoyable parts. I've done Nismo Headers, Injen exhaust, 3 different intakes, sway bars, Nismo Suspension, Crawford plenum, craford cats, AEW wideband o2 sensor (includign welding the bung), SAFC II piggy back fuel computer, and a Zex wet kit, with all the goddies. The hardest thing to install for me were the headers. I not only enjoy working on my car, but it also helps me, because if something goes wrong, I will know how to fix it. I am not a mechanic nor extremely mechanically inclined. I just read up on everything before I install it, so that I kow exactly what to do. It makes life a lot easier if you have a a well diversified tool box, and a set of jack stands.

if I have the tools, and can get the knowhow in some form or fashion, I will certainly take on the task. Ive installed all my mods thus far, and will be tackling an exhaust tomarrow. but I probably wouldnt do headers or turbo or crack the engine as I dont have a lift, nor a engine houst, and most importantly the knowledge. though Id certainly be hanging around the shop watching closely looking to learn all I could.

I install all of my mods myself. That is the best part of modding a car! Knowing you put it together.

Thanks for including the chicks! I've done all of my own mods with the exception of the Borla (I don't have access to a lift) and the window tinting (I obviously wanted a pro to do it).

I have done all of mine myself. Some were not fun, but it saves money and gives me a better sense of accomplishment.

I installed my pop charger myself. I will install the exhaust/highflow cats/plenum when I get them myself as well.. Might have a little help on the plenum.

Installed the intake, exhaust and grounding kit myself (well my dad helped a little ). I would install anything myself, it's all about having the right tools. I love working on the car.

i was looking at the car today and i was thinking i want to do some mods like i have done with the 240 but this car is a little too pretty and maybe too new for me to mess with. I did all the work on my 240 except the body work, but touching the Z i don't know. everything is so tight in there. but this gives me some hope to do some installs.

I love working on the car. I've installed all my mods, except clearbra, tint and tire installation. I've also helped others, like pimp1911 above, because I get as much or more enjoyment from working on cars than the actual performance increases.

plus knowing that you put your car together means you know who to beat up when parts start falling off!

I don't have any mods on my Z, but I've done all the mods on my '72 GS. I've replaced pretty much every piece of the drivetrain (sometimes 2 or 3 times), and a good deal of the suspension. It taught me a lot about how a car works and it does give you a real sense of accomplishment being able to say, "I built this car myself". However, lately I've been pretty burnt out on it and if I decided to do any mods that weren't really simple I'd probably let a shop take care of them for me.
