Default Easy fix or the end of the Z

So recently my Z has been sat for a while and I booted it up and it struggled to start with but then started sounding like a diesel instantly and not the v6 we all love at idle, even accelerating its sounded throaty and like a diesel and a strong smell petrol fumes, not sure if it’s this is an issue with fuel pump or even something to do with the exhaust but the check engine light is on but I’m stuck where to go from here so any help would be appreciated thank you!

Obviously first thing is to pull codes..... nobody on here is psychic, not to mention you didn't state year miles or anything

the only code id had gotten was a P0345 which was a cam shaft sensor id already replaced but didn’t clear the CEL, I think I’d need to reset the ecu or something, also my Z is on 65k miles and it’s a 2004 roadster

It was just a cheap one off eBay as it needs an MOT so wasn’t spending upwards of a 100 for one just to pass an MOT but this is the one I got for like £20, the car hasn’t driven yet and the cam shaft sensor is brand new

Yeah I read up on that too, the car hasn’t driven since having the sensor installed so it should be fine, so is it worth buying an OEM one instead?

If you replaced the sensor with that cheap aftermarket one and the code is still there with the hesitation in starting, then yes. Get the OEM sensor.
