Default Would You Change Your Mind??

I am a current RX8 owner wanting a Z but afraid of the feathering issue.
Your feed back to these questions would be appreciated.

1. If you knew of the feathering problem before your purchase, would you still have bought the Z?

2. If you were given the opportunity to give your car back w/o losing a dime, would you and why?

Thanks

1. Id want the car aligned, and the camber checked. thatd be first part before signing anything. luckily although I have a vin in the 1600range I have no signs of feathering for whatever reason.

2. sure! but Id buy a 2004 Z. naw, at this point, I would have to test drive an STI and evo, just to give a fair judgement. but the Z would be very much in the lead, prefer a V6 but thats my opinion, and the I4s can state their case to me in person .

The Z is a unique car. The lancer and STI, your buying the engine, aesthetics of both are allright, but the Z has a unique style that represents it self. The Rx8 is beautiful car. Perfomance wise its not all that, but functionality, its a 4 seater which is convienient. But as for the Z, feathering issues. Tires are replaceable. If you buy a Z you have money. It isn't a Civic or an economical car. If you buy a nice car, it takes money to keep it up.

Regrets? none at all. Should you buy one. Buy it, its a landmark car for this decade.

I love the Z, its been 8 months so far 7600 miles, and every time i get in it, i still can't believe I drive one.

I didn't know about it beforehand, and... I might've ended up with a 330Ci. But I have the Z now, and am happy with my choice. Would I give up the car now? No, but if things were to get worse (like some horror stories on this board), who knows?

1. Yes, Tire feathering only happened to a fraction of the actual cars sold and not all had the problem. Knowing about it going in I would make sure the alignment specs were all ok and have them verified by an independent shop that knows their stuff before signing on the dotted lines.

2. Never, I love this car. My wife on the other hand would probably take you up on that offer since the car almost gets as much attention as she does now.

1. If I knew about the feathering issues, I would have waited until it was fixed.

2. Even if I could give it back, I wouldn't.....It's a Z!!!! Rich in heritage and one of the most beautifully sculpted car I have laid eyes on

Realized I didnt answer the Questions

1. If you knew of the feathering problem before your purchase, would you still have bought the Z?

YES.
If I knew it was not common and if feathering appeared it would be corrected by the dealer under warranty.

2. If you were given the opportunity to give your car back w/o losing a dime, would you and why?

NOPE.
Love My TRACK and plan to keep it until I am dead

2004 here, no feathering thus far. I've never been a car person until I got the Z. I absoluetly LOVE this car. It's fast, it's fun, and an attention-grabber. I find my self making excuses to go see people just to go drive there! I don't care for how the RX-8 looks compared to the Z.

1. I knew about the tire feathering, but I still bought my Z, the car's perfect so far, no problem at all at 9600km

2. YES!!! I'd give them back my Z, and get ANOTHER DB Track so that I can get rid of the 9600km on my tack!!!
But seriously, I LOVE my Z
I won't give it up for another car... unless it's a Lambo or Ferrari...

It's an auto and a car like that deserves to be driven and not ridden so it needs a manual transmission.
I had every intention of getting the RX8 MT until I drove the Z....
What a difference!!!! I just didn't see a difference in the handling or the ride itself talked about on the RX8 board, plus all the extra ponies kick it up a noch or two.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Hey mplc,
I'm a former RX-7 owner, had two second-gen Turbo II's. I love the rotary engine, and I feel a certain loyalty to Mazda because of my history with them.

I was fortunate to be in a position to pay cash for either the RX-8 or the Z, so the monthly wallet-sucking didn't really play into the equation, but based on looks, specs, etc. I chose the Z. I got to drive an RX-8, but I never got to drive a Z before I picked mine up, so I really felt like I was making a gamble. It paid off...I love my '04 Track, and I don't regret my decision, even having to pay the $400 for the airbag switch so I can put my son in the car, which I wouldn't have had to do in the 8.

I did my homework on the Z. Through this forum, I learned all about the 'hazards' of owning a Z. Again, I gambled that Nissan would fix all of the 'first-year gremlins' in the next year, and from what I'm hearing, it seems to have paid off. I only have about 750 miles on my Z, so I can't really judge for myself yet, but I am confident that I am happier getting into the Z than I would have been getting into an RX-8.

If you can make the swap, I say do it....You won't regret it.

Sorry for the long-winded reply (I tend to do that)
