Well, for the longest time I've waited for someone to come up with a NICE LOOKING mesh grill for the Z. This hasn't happened yet, and I have grown impationt. So here's what Im gonna do:

I will create a grill which will require the removal of the plastic pieces that come with the stock front bumper. It will look like this initially (minus the FMIC):

It will look something like this, just not on a TK kit, on the stock bumper...

Now, here's where I could use some help:

I need to locate the material to be used. I would like to model it using the same material that Mitsubishi uses on their Evo (probably the only thing I like about the whole car). The grille is real neat and the right size, texture, and color for my project.

Other possibilites is the Nissan stock grille on the older SE-R's.

I need to find out where they get their grill stock from. As, who makes it for nissan and mitsu. I need to buy sheets so I can custom make it. Get what I mean??

Whats in it for you guys? Well, if this works out, there will be a new product out there for all you Z owners. I will save the template I use, and make others depending on demand. I will also include step by step instructions with each kit.

So who's with me??

I was thinking about doing this myself as well, but since I'm always so busy (lazy) this looks like a good opportunity. I'll see what I can find for grille materials. Depending on the price, I'll want one. Throw in the FMIC and I'll take two.

Always the one to ask the dumb question in the group.....Does this conversion keep the car street legal since you've removed the side markers? Looks really great, though....By far one of the best grill designs I've seen....I'd be interested in this.

they sell grill at homedepot, often called the gutter gaurd mod. homedepot sells a heavy duty grill intended for BBQs, thats no good of course. but gutter gaurd has the feel your looking for. problem is, I dont think its wide enough. the Z has a wider than average mouth.

Id contact wadd. he has access to a metal shop that would probably get whatever material your wanting, and he could have it cut with a water jet or plasma cutter, whatever. be more precise and easier than any other way I can think of. I think they just need a cad file with the dimensions.

I believe this is what ares is referring to:

http://www.gutterworld.com/product.a...outgutterguard

I tried to fabricate something out of this stuff on my old car but never got it right. It would probably have to be connected to the bumper at several locations because I remember it being easy to bend. And I also agree that the opening may be more than 6".

Hope this helps.

yup thats the stuff. I know I first heard of it on the RSX forums, but check out an RSX and youll see they have a rather short opening, which didnt leave as much material for it to wrinkle.

Oh, and sorry about not having any grille solutions yet. I've been way too busy with work, and when I did look for parts, they were stuff I wouldn't wanna put in the trunk of my Z, let alone as a body piece. Oh well, the search continues, and is actually narrowing down. Sometime soon guys I promise
