let's take it down a notch BullishZ.
I think we all know that InternetAbyss meant no ill feelings or to make a derogatory comment.
And all of us use phrases we don't know are offensive. So we use them innocently. Until someone can point them out to us.
Example: I have known many people to say, that sales person "gyped me". Well, then they find out that Gyp is short for Gypsie, and that is a slang comment.
So for InternetAbyss, I offer the following definition of "jap"
Jap (jãp)
n. Offensive Slang.
Used as a disparaging term for a person of Japanese birth or descent.
People remain ignorant, if no one teaches them, not if someone preaches at them.

i meant Jap as a abrevation for Japanese<<<<< SEE I DONT KNOW HOW TO SPELL IT OFF HAND...is that right?. AND I'm too lazy to look it up since I figured I'm not getting graded on my spelling or grammer on a internet forum. By the way I think you also are implying i'm a racist or something. Well I'm not ------IM LAZY or in your politically correct world I'm dictionary challenged ------ so I like to abreviate stuff....sorry if i offended any Japanese Americans out there..... sorry I'm just a lazy white anglo-saxon american.
Geez...heres a couple lazy jokes to lighten you up a bit.
Q: Santa Claus, the Tooth Fairy, a non-lazy man (who helps out around the house), and a lazy man are about to jump off a bridge into water. Who makes the biggest splash?
A: The lazy man. The other 3 don't exist.
In a tiny village lived an old maid. In spite of her old age, she was still a virgin.
She was very proud of it. She knew her last days were getting closer, so she told the local undertaker that she wanted the following inscription on her tombstone: "Born as a virgin, lived as a virgin, died as a virgin”.
Not long after, the old maid died peacefully, and the undertaker told his men what the lady had said. The men went to carve it in, but as the lazy no-goods they were, they thought the inscription to be unnecessarily long. They simply wrote: "Returned unopened"
Sorry that this was allready posted too....just saw it on zcar and made sure you guys saw it too since most original zer's have left zcar.com to go here.

Warning this is just for discussion purposes and not to offend anyone. My folks never explained old slang to me. Im fully versed in all the slang from the 80's-to the 90's
since someone brought up slang.....I'm not up to all the slang terms so IM JUST CURIOUS.
I thought the derogatory slang J.A.P. meant Jewish American Princess
But I do hear the term Jap's in alot of ww2 movies even the old ones that play on public tv today (general audience) with no parental warning of bad language. Personally I thought it was just a abrevation, Just like G.I.'s thats what the people of japanese orgin called the U.S. military men.
I also remeber from movies that play publicly for all audiences the nick name for the german army....Crouts...that came from a nick name because of sour crout. I guess I'm ignorant to the old slang of the 1940-50's
By the way....thanks for the slang lesson I never knew where the saying "gyped" came from....I used it before but didnt realize where It came from or meant besides what it has develped into in every day conversation.
Im just asking this since this was brought up and I know this isnt the forum to talk about this....but since the can of worms has been opend. I'm just curious since Ive never really asked anyone about this all I know is they never taught slang definitions in college.
sorry for spelling errors too....no spell check in here. I got spoiled with typing papers in msword in college.
