Default Service Engine Soon???

Well, just shortly after my car hit 1600 miles, I got a SES light. Anyone have any idea if this is a timed thing (or was it just coincidence that I kicked over 1600 on the clock just as it came on).

Anyone else here get this light at ~1600 miles? Am I supposed to do an oil change or something?

You could take it into the dealer for them to check it out. I doubt it has anything to do with mileage. I had that light come on a few weeks ago and I then did the ECU reset and it went away and hasn't been back. If it would have come back on, I would have taken it into the dealer. All the light means is that the ECU saw something that was out of spec. It may not be important but you may want to take it in to get looked at.

Yeah, im sure its no big deal and I'd rather have them take a look instead of me resetting it. Only thing I dont wanna deal with is the down time and the thought of someone else driving my car around, for "test drive inspection" of course....

Nope, I'm at 4.1K miles and the SES light has never come on (other than when the normal test it goes through when you start the car). I think it's a coincidence.

one common thing that often causes this light to come on is maybe you did not put the gas cap back on all the way after a fill up, all the way to the clicks. if thats the case all the ecu needs is reset. even if thats not it, i doubt the dealer would have to test drive the car to see what is happening. i understand that all they need to do is hook up a diagnostic computer to the car and they can see what exactly the ecu saw and at what mile and at what time of day, and at what condition the car was being run in at the time. kinda neat and kinda scary at the same time that they can get all of this info. either way, good luck.
