New order deposit / dealer allocation
When I ordered a Z on Sept. 13 I put down a $1,000 deposit. I asked the dealer if this order went against his monthly allocation, and he told me that, since I had made a deposit, it did not. (Since he was a small dealer, I was worried about a longer delay in getting the car. I thought he might not have a big allotment, but I was the first one to order a Z at this dealership anyway so I didn't worry about it.)
He quoted me a delivery of March, possibly February, but now I'm finding out that others who ordered in September have been told dates more like December and January.
Does an ordered car with a deposit go against the dealer's monthly allotment or not? Can they get just so many cars each month regardless of whether they're just shipped as an allotment or special ordered? Or are the ordered cars extra?
All explanations are appreciated.
Thanks, Wayne

Why *wouldn't* it go against their allocation? I ordered mine at the beginning of Sept with $1000 deposit down and the dealer told me that he was allocated 3 orders per month and I was #5 in line, so my order wouldn't go out til the beginning of Oct.
Makes sense to me, but what confused me is that the dealer seemed to imply that he could order all he wanted as long as you put down a deposit. We must have miscommunicated though. I believe you are probably correct; it surly must count as part of his allocation.
If that is the case, however, then how does a dealer work up to a bigger and bigger allocation? All he could ever sell is what they send him...
If anyone knows any more about this, please let us in on it.
Thanks for replying. Wayne
