Because IMO, the STi is ugly. Simple as that for me.

wanted a V6, wanted 2 doors 2 seats.

why have a I4 pushing 14lbs of boost for 300hp, when a V6 can make 13 less with no boost? yes, the sti is easier then to increase the boost, but base price of them compared is 4000$ more than the Z. your almost to a turbo at that point, where the STI cant keep up. and though the base Z doesnt have much, it does have a radio which the STI in all its 3280lb light weight glory doesnt have.(note 100lbs more than the base Z)

awd is good for mag tests, but from a roll or on a track, its not gonna do much but cause understeer, I beleive the STI and EVO AWD setups favor the fronts... or does the STI have an adjustable center diff.

Why??? Take a look for yourself. It's not all about power and speed.

I Agree with everyone

STI Looks like a cheapo car. Example: would you Valet Parking your STI, if you go to a 5 or 6 star hotel? i mean along with Ferrari, porsche or even Lambo
350Z have the style of High Class car. So for me i would not felt ashame driving a Z and Get it Valet Parking in 5 or 6 star hotel. Because the Z have the style of great sport car

Honestly I would probably go for the Sti if I was 16 years old but I'm 38 and I need a car that befits my image. The Z is classy yet not a status symbol imo.

I do not like this in the STi:

4 door
UGLY
Turbo expensive to maintain if something goes wrong
No stereo
Expensive - got my Z for $30,800 where the STi is $36,500+ (dealer markup)
Vowed never to buy another 4 banger

I think ares had a great explanation.

If you really care about only speed & performance you would not get a new car...in fact you would not get an import most likely.

First of all, you have to ask yourself why do you like STi instead of asking people why buy Z when you can buy a STi?

Faster than Z?

If talk about fast, a 1989 240sx with SR20DET engine modified. I am sure It will beat your STi in track but it's cheaper.

In my opinion:
Pros for STi
-Awd
-5 passengers car (but for a sport cars, why bother having 5 people)
-Faster

Cons for STi
-Ugly
-Too high for the height
-Not much features
-No navigation,cheaper stereo
-Interior looks ugly
-Not unique enough (coz there are lots of low model impreza on the street)
-People can add a body kit to their low model impreza to pretend to be a STi, where no one can add a body to looks like a Z.

Hmmm...... Why not an STi? Maybe cause they`re the UGLIEST new car around. Is THAT a good enough reason?
Four doors, no thanks. Do they come with a baby seat as an option? Look at the two cars. There is no comparison.
So it`s faster. Who cares? Nobody gives them a second look.
Definately not chicks anyway.

Let me try and convince you. Buy the dam STI. I want there to be fewer cars on the road like mine. By the way chicks dont like the sti. But they love the Z. That means that if you get that dam ugly sti, there will be more Z lovin girls out there for me. Good luck with the family sedan.

personally i like the sti a lot and if i could buy this car again i would have gotten an sti/evo, im sick of throwing down thousands of dollars for 20 hp gains. plus tha aftermarket thinks that every part for the z should cost nearly twice as much as it would for any other car. who cares if its a lil boxy lots of ppl like that look. i like the evo more though! my 0.02

The Z is Classy and has great styling, I don't see that in the sti, and just and example, I'm driving back from Fla. and doing about 85 and this eclispe gs-t pulls up along side and i fiqure that they are probably looking for a race, I begin to slow down a bit and prepare for the downshift and then they roll down the window at about 55 and his girlfriend says that's a beautiful car and he says damn good purchase and thumbs up and pulls off. This is why I have the 350Z.

I like the STi's performance- good brakes, AWD, good suspension. However, from a roll, the STi is no faster than the Z, nor does it brake any better than mine. Having driven an STi, I was appalled at the atrocious steering ratio, which reminded me of driving a truck. I'm much happier with my purchase, and I don't second guess it any day. Drag racing is lame to me, so off-the-line launches were elminated in my comparison.

One might consider the STi over the Z to avoid getting a POS Z which is not at all unheard of. If you need help impressing women, by all means, get the Z. If you need a car with more potential and don't give a rat's *** what anyone thinks, get the STi. It's easy to rag on the styling of the STi. It's also easy to say that a Z next to a 996 GT3 looks like a cheap POS too.

The STi has a adjustable locking center diff, ares, that will put 65% to the rear wheels and allow you to throttle oversteer and wag the tail all day long.

It all depends on what you are going to do with it. If you want max performance out of the box at the track then go with the STi. I've seen the STi, EVO VIII, and Euro Spec EVO VII on the track...they are unbelievable track cars especially for the money.

Looks wise also depends...because I love how the STi and EVO handle and perform, I find their purposeful rally car looks to be fugg'n cool. The Z on the otherhand has more of a sports car look as we assume a sports car should look.

I love my Z but I wouldn't kick and STi or EVO out of the garage.

Good luck with your choice...I'm sure you'll be happy with either.

I was going to give a nice detailed response to this question, but the rest of the board beat me to it STI's are cool man, but the Z is a true sports car, looks, 2 seater, and all the rest. If the STI is what you want then get that and have fun. I like the EVO 8 as well, but everytime i look at the Z, i just get this feeling like there is no other car i want.
