Glad to hear it is a total loss (that just doesn't sound right does it?)

I feel for you man - about 2 years ago some 81 year old decided to drive out in front of me after a stop sign and totalled my car. When the cop told him he was getting a citation for stop and yield signs, he said "I did stop", to which the cop said "well, you're responsible for making sure it's safe to go as well". At least my car then was only a taurus.

Crazy old people. I'm a firm believer that after a certain age you should have to get your vision, and sensibility checked to keep your license. I know it sounds a little rude, but my mind changed after I saw my friends aunt drive into a building because she though the car was in reverse when leaving a parking spot.

I feel your pain, at first I wasn't sure if my car was going to be totalled. My insurance company came back and told me that they wouldn't, that there was only 17K worth of damages, but when I brought it to an autobody shop, they found another 7K worth of supplemental damages, and the car was totaled. But in general it sucks not having your car. Well, if I were you, I would look into salvaging the car if at all possible, maybe buy it from the insurance company and then part it out? I would be interested in some stuff, the stock gauge cluster above the steering wheel for one.

Hey maybe its time for a convertible? I would have gotten one but they didn't make it in Brickyard Red.

Dude, you should definitely get checked out by an M.D. or D.C. especially if you're having back pain. Find yourself a new lawyer...your car just got totalled, all that energy from the accident went thru your body. You definitely have some soft tissue injuries, and if you don't get that fixed you're looking at aches and pains down the road.
Typical settlements in a case like this is 2-4 grand for pain and suffering.
If you have PIP (personal injury protection) your bills will be taken care of while you seek treatment.

Yeah, the first body shop I brought it to was hell bent on fixing it - they were bragging about fixing another one for 19k a week earlier. They were also in bed with the woman's insurance company, so it didn't look good. I Had it towed out of there to MY body shop, and then made my insurance company come and look at it, knowing they would total it out. That made it alot harder for her ins. company to come over and say it should be fixed. My body shop also made an estimate that was north of 23k, which would definitely total.

AS far as my injuries go, I am going to the doctor, probably a little physical therapy. Staying away from the chiro though, I walked in to their office and they were total criminals - (reminds me of the car dealers)more interested in how much they could get from the insurance company than treating my injury. They wanted me to sign documents putting a lien on an eventual settlement so that they could overcharge the ins. company and then take my money.

On a happy note, I just ordered a new Z, and after dealing with a dozen lying car salesmen I ended up getting it for less than I paid the first time. Only problem is in order to get exactly what I wanted I had to order it - which is going to take 6 weeks at least, leaving me with a mountain bike to get to work. Dunno what I am going to do, but I guess I'll figure something out.

Thanks for all of the advice guys....

So are you going to tell us what you ordered?!!?!

As for Chiro's, you definitely have to be careful. We're not as regulated as we should be...and there are some shady ones out there (like any profession). Good to hear you're getting looked at...definitely do the PT! I've seen too many cases where people come in a year later with back and neck pain because they didn't do anything.

Can't you get her insurance company to pay for a rental car?

They are paying for my rental now, but they are never going to pay for it that long. They are giving me a hard time because I rented a Mustang Convertible (It was the only rental car available in town) and not some tiny Ford Festiva or Dodge Neon. I may have to sue them for that! But getting them to pay for 6 weeks is going to be impossible, even tough that is realistically what it is going to take to replace the car they are responsible for destroying.

Oh, and I ordered the exact same configuration that I had - and saved about 700 bucks cause I stuck to my guns and didn't bend for the crooked scum car salesman who did everything they could to sell me what I didn't want - telling me they had the one I wanted and then at the last minute changing their story. It is a Chrome Silver Enthusiast, all options except the side air bags (I heard they are pretty useless on this car, please tell me I am right). Of course now it is only a matter of time before another side impact accident. Sigh. I sent the ins company a receipt for my aftermarket parts, and because it was dated wrong - (it said 04 instead of 03 because I had my dealer print a new one) they are hasseling me. Like it is even possible I bought the stuff in Dec. of 04!!! They will do anything to avoid paying.

The whole thing is definately going to be one big hassel. That's what insurance companies do, they hope you get so fed up with the hasseling you're start giving in on certain things. Don't fall for it!

As far as the side airbags go, you might be right but I got them cause I didn't want to take that chance. I've been in a side impact accident before, seatbealts don't do crap. Hit hard enough, your head goes through the side window.
