Default Mods

I have also posted this thread on the roadster side but realized the mods are the same.

Here is the deal, I am buying a 04 ER and I don't know much if anything about mods but I won't to go faster....I want to walk into my local speed shop, spend $2,000 by saying, I want this and this.....what do I get?

I am a 40 something driver who never got into speed until I got the RX 8....I got a taste of speed and want...scratch, need more speed. It's like I have become a F****** speed addict ...need more. I know there are faster cars but I love the Z.
What do I get?...... I am too lazy to search and I know you guys love to talk about it anyway.
What do I spend the $2,000 after that on ?

Hmm...I'm also debating whether to spend $2k I have laying around on mods. Some of my friends told me to just not spend because mods are a waste of money (yeah right, like I'm going to believe that!). I probably want the Borla True Dual exhaust and headers, Kinetix cats and plenum, UR crank pully, and JWT pop charger. I think that comes about to about around $2,500 unstalled, but you can tackle the job yourself and not pay install fees.

"Install myself" My wife calls 911 when I pick up a screw driver.
Thanks for the input but the boys at Adrenaline motor sports have a great reputation around here.
I'm just ignorant when it comes to mods but slowly learning....I believe the more I age the more I digress in my actions.

Holy s***, I am in a mid life crisis!!!!

Bang for your buck I would go:

Flowmaster 80
UR Crank Pulley
RT Cats
Kinetix PLenum (say goodbye to warranty)
Tilton Clutch

That should cover you BEFORE install.

more info, what are your wants for sound?

I donno about flowmaster 80. it has its points, but its a crapshoot IMO whether the shop gets a good layout or not. and all in all, labor included, no so much cheaper.

your exhaust choices 90% have 4 choices.
1. borla-cheapest exhaust, good gains, lots of peices but with a good install shouldnt be a problem. closest stock in sound.
2.Nismo- single piping unlike the rest, carries nismo warrenty. medium price, stock appearance, louder than stock. least HP of the group.
3. Stillen-argueably the "nicest" of the group. Heavy, extremely expensive. most HP though. louder than stock.
4. Injen- middle range of power, slightly more than borla but under stillen. medium price. looks nothing like stock, one of the loudest exhaust out for the Z.

it basicly comes down to sound, if you want middle range of sound, it comes down to price. you said you were ~40, you may not want the noise, or maybe you do... my dad loves the injen, and he's older than you. but plenty others went the other way with borla. I feel like nismo has become very popular for its sound and appearance but lower cost than stillen since it has tested as lower ouput than the duals, but Im not sure.

ok... so thats the exhaust, gonna run 800(borla)-1200$(stillen) injen and nismo around 900$.

again might not attract you, but Id shop around for used. you can get it much cheaper, and an exhaust doesnt really take much "wear".

next up cat replacement. high flow or test pipes(no cats). highflow passes emmisions(some do anyway), and better sound, down side, they cost 500$. test pipes, more power, but raspy sound, much louder exhaust, illegal, wont pass emmisions, not good for anyone that doesnt want to put the cats back in when emmisions testing comes around. test pipes are about 200$ and easily found used for 100$.

plenum, kinetix or crawford. I donno that Id say they violate the warrenty in any major way... Id be more concerned about the clutch or pully in that regaurd.kinetix is plastic... thats basicly its draw back IMO. crawford is the same price, but you lose your stock plenum. it is metal.

pulley, crank only is fine, 2xx$

your around 2000 now. and havent paid what will probably be 2-300$ of labor to install.
