jaa1755,

May I suggest you take your car on a twisty road, your opinion might change once you see how this car handles, hugs the road better as opposed to your old F-body.

You should be able to take corners faster in the Z than your old F-body, unless of course your F-body was modded with suspension upgrades, it is my understanding that the Z handles the twistys better.

Go ahead ... give it a try

EDIT: Be safe and drive reasonably. If you are not used to driving fast on twisty roads, please dont even try it.

I know what you mean about feeling slow, but what you gotta remember is it just feels slow but the car is moving pretty fast. I know this first hand from owning a 93 RX-7 and the turbos gave me that "push back" in the chairs that made it feel extremely fast. But on paper, the Z and RX-7 are pushing similar numbers. One just feels faster than the other but believe me, the power in the Z is more than enough. Just my 2 cents on this matter

The low end torque of the Z is a little disappointing but keep in mind its no V8. Low end torque on a V8 makes you feel like your going alot faster than you really are as well.

I ordered and had delivered a Chrome Silver M6 Enthusiast about a month ago, and while I really loved the car during the break in period, I now think I may have made a mistake.

Now don’t get me wrong, as an overall performance value, the 350Z runs circles around most other competitors. The handling balance and feedback are amazing, the ergonomics of the interior are very well designed, and the car is one of the most beautiful ever penned. That’s why I bought it without really driving it – I figured with nearly 300 horsepower on tap, the engine couldn’t disappoint.

I hate to say it, but I might have been wrong. After I changed my oil at 1000 miles, I drove the extra 200 to end the break in, and then I found a long straight road and opened it up. While it felt far from ‘slow’, I wasn’t very impressed. Below 4k RPM, there isn’t enough torque to even press you back in your seat. Above 4500, you can feel the horsepower, but in my opinion it’s still not anywhere near “wow” impressive.

Now, I realize I have to keep in mind my old ‘toy” was a full bolt on Formula Firebird, and with 12 second time slips (feathering the launch), I need to give a lot of leeway to the different feel and power level of this engine. However, I sold the Formula months ago, and my daily driver is an Accord coupe five speed, so I am far from used to a powerful car.

I’m just worried that I spent $30,000 on a car with a lot more bark than bite, so I’ll pose the question like this – All fanatical Z loyalty aside, are you satisfied with the engine in your 350? Does it perform like you expect, or are you always left wishing for more?
i didn't know what to expect...except the fastest car i sat in was a supra tt with some mods. Talk about brute force kicking you back into your seat!

so when i test drove the stick z...i thought to myself? this is fast? lol

but i liked the handling, interior wasn't too bad, looks amazing. The strangest thing about this car to me... is RIGHT now at this moment (15,000 miles) the car feels faster then after break-in. I've been saying this for a long time and I will dyno my stock soon(automatic as well).

it's not normal to feel like a car is getting faster...usually you get used to the speed and eventually become numb to the speed. BUT not this car my friend not this car...than again you had a twelve sec car

This has been said about a million times. The 350Z is a track car. End of story. To most, this sounds like a cop-out. And to those who view the previous statement as a cop-out, you are ignorant Everything about the Z, its very inception, was designed as a car that "handles", and nothing else.

Oh, and to the guys who bought their Z and don't take it out on twisty roads, shame on you. Anywys, I would love more grunt for my Z. But I drive my Z in the twisties every chance I get. I'd have to spend a good amount of time getting used to it, so I could handle the Z at its limits. It's very easy to let all that power get away from you . All the power in the world isn't going to help a car go any faster around a track (or turns in general), than it's own suspension/tires will allow. So basically what I'm saying is, if you want to drag it, obviously go FI. If you want to use it for what it was meant for, learn how to max it out in stock form before you do anything.

Yes, you made a mistake.
The f bodies are great value for money, performancewise. The 350Z is great money for value overall. Two different cars for different people.

I miss at times my 2000 z28. Burnouts were unsurpassed, and scary at speed (poor handling). It was an easy car to scare people in..... I can't scare people in my Z

You think you made a 30k mistake? Put yourself in my shoes, I made a 40k mistake with my Z roadster.

I am kicking myself daily for not getting this 03 convertible vette with 6k miles on it. The vette cost about the same as the Z.

The Z, in my opinion, is not that fast (or great) of a car. The 01 mustang gt vert that I traded to get the Z would have blown this car (Z) away. And compared to a vette or camaro, forget it.. they would suck you up one tailpipe and spit you out the other.

and for those thinking that the Z handles better than the vette? you must not have driven them lately. I went by and test drove the vette after I got the Z (big mistake). I thought it drove sweet, better than the Z, and 0-60 was freekin amazing.

if anyone is in the dallas area, I will pay you $5 to come by and kick me right between the eyes.

cheer up, be glad you only made a 30k mistake. that is all.

I don't think anyone ever said the Z handled better than the Vette. It's not like you gave up a Z06. The vette is clearly a more expensive car. It was made to handle, and be fast as hell. THe Z was made more with handling in mind, then speed. My Z was ~32K. A vette is significantly more expensive.
