Not a chance. Theres no way they would go for a major model upgrade like that on the second year. Contrary to popular belief, if a car is well recieved and sells like hot cakes the first year, the car makers change EVEN LESS! They dont start adding major upgrades like that untill sales start slumping, and it doesnt look like they are going to have trouble selling plenty of Zs just the way they are for the next year or two. Look how long it took them to start offering convertable VW beetles. Nothings impossible, but if Nissan offers a turbo Z in its second model year, I WILL EAT MY OWN HEAD!!

 

I don't see what the big deal is if Nissan puts out a 2004,2005,2006 350z. For us who have a 2003 model, we can just slap on a Nismo turbo when that happens if we want the same hp.

 

Riiiiiiiight. Sorry I had to respond to this, you can't just slap a turbo on your car. If a new turbo Z comes out, it's engine will be built to handle boost. The 350z as it currently is, is not. You would have to lower compression a whole lot to begin with.

 

I read in AutoWeek that "Horesepower scheduled to go over 300 in '06". So, how you think they will do that??

 

Well if they do put a factory turbo on the the Z at least it would be covered under warranty un like the add on, just pointing that out not that I'm dissagreeing with you Turcoupe. And not everyone would be eager to spend $3000-$5000 for shipping, parts and install.

 

Nissan might just do what Honda has been doing for a while with the Integra and the Integra Type R. They could raise the compression some more and make it rev even higher, I'm sure there quite a few more horses they can squeeze out of the Z NA. I have a feeling they will just do something like that.

 

Forced induction, if from NISMO, will be covered under warranty IF dealer installed. Yeah, you have to spend more money on labor that way, but you retain your factory warranty.

Where would a turbo(s) fit? Engine compartment is already pretty tight. If a solution is found, I'm willing to bet the routing will be suboptimal at best.

 

I doubt that they will put a turbo on the Z. Don't you all remember what happen with the 90-96 300ZX TT. The price became prohibitive to us enthusiasts and the car was taken out of production. Do you think Nissan is going to make that mistake again, I doubt it. There niche is to make and affordable car that out performs almost all others no matter the price. I think they will stick to this formula from past lessons learned. If they want to produce a high performance car for racing they can put a V-8 in the Z. They have the Indy engine they could use for racing.

 

supercharger is more cost effective and, if offered only as NISMO aftermarket and not from factory, Nissan can still price the car towards the target market and offer aftermrket equipment for the Z enthusiasts that want a vette killer.

being that it is a "q45" don't you thinkit would be a 4.5 liter V8?

 

Nissan could also add Varible Valve Timing on the exhaust and probably get some more HP. With a hugely popular car like the Z, incremental change is usually the next step. Look at the Integra, the model ran for 7 yrs without anything but small changes. Right now no challenger with the Z's power, price and expected sales volume exists. I don't think many changes would be called for at least a yr or two.

Actually the compression ratio of the 350 is lower than the that of the NA 300.

 

The price would go insane. A track turbo would have to be at least 40k. Sure, itll be a freakin SUPERCAR, but the z32 was supposed to be and look what the price did for the car. Then with a turbo, our Z become the "cheap" model and well be pissed. If its gonna happen, Ill believe '06, but not sooner AND Im pretty sure they might as well put the turbo in the GTR, export and have a 50k superduperawesomeoutofcontrolrocketstraightouttahell model.

dude,when the GTR comes out, I think ferrari owners are gonna start having dilemmas like the boxter and audi tt guys have with the Z.

 

yeah, it seems the 350Z is a bit detuned as compared to my NA 300ZX, mine redlines at 7000, I dont see why the VQ, with its better rod ratio, shouldnt be capable of going out to at least 7000 as well. Look fo this to be the next power step in later years
