Bose Fix (Here is how to unplug the Mic)
Yes we have beaten this to death but there is an easy alternative to taping the mic to get rid of the Auto EQ. I broke out the trusty screwdriver and removed the 4 screws under the steering column. I then removed the plastic O-Ring that is circling the ignition (the silver piece where you put the key) I then pulled gently near the back of the housing where the tilt lever is. The housing will snap away from the top half. DO NOT REMOVE THE THE HOUSING ALL THE WAY!. You only need to get the front of it down far enough to get your hand in there to pull the mic plug. There is a male/female plug right next to the microphone that is easily disconnected with one hand. I have attached some photos for reference (sorry about the quality)
The next question you have is "Does it work?"
Yes...the stereo sounds great at all levels with a CD (I did not notice the drowning sub like before) although I did notice it more with the FM playing at low levels.
This process took les then 5 minutes and will not void any warranty. (Hope this helps!)

OK, so you're saying that the volume DOES NOT CHANGE at all now and that the sub will stay at the value you set via the head unit, i.e., it WILL NOT fade in and out? Really?

The volume does not appear to fade out with the CD, but when you play the FM at very low levels it still has the drowning sub affect. Turn it up a few clicks and it seemed fine with or without the windows open. (seems more like a power issue rather then the Auto EQ)
I'm pretty satisfied with it till the real Bose fix comes around.

OK....I put about 30 miles on the car today testing out the Bose with the mic unplugged. The CD actually sounds great with no volume change (windows up or down). The FM (Radio) still appears to try and adjust the volume and sounds the same.
You can crank CD's pretty damn loud (I was actually impressed that the sound did not become distorted at high volume levels) It was clean and clear……
So my recommendation is to give it a shot and unplug the mic (you have nothing to lose) It would be nice to get some other opinions of people that have tried it...
Unless you’re playing John Tesh crank it up and turn some heads...

I just tried it with strange results. At first, it sounded perfect with the radio on. The usual "backing out of the driveway" volume and bass change was nonexistant. Driving around my neighborhood, it sounded great, like there never was a problem. Then, without warning, the volume suddenly shot up, more than it ever has. After that, it sounded worse than ever, at any volume. Fearing that I would damage something, I pulled over and plugged the mic back in. Now it's back to it's usually bad sounding self.
I guess it's back to waiting for the Nissan fix.

Ok...one last post on this issue and I'm done
I just wanted to quote my wife when I showed her the Bose after I pulled the mic. "Wow! it sounds great! why didn't it sound like this when we bought it?"
I just looked at her and said "Thats a good question"
For those of you meeting in Seattle on Saturday you can check out the difference then.
