What I mean is that all the information from Nissan about the 350Z (and I assume also the G35) is that it makes 287 horsepower when they are bone stock. Well, if you or anyone else has ever taken their stock Z's to a dyno you know that is just not true. On average a stock Z will make between 230 and 240 horsepower.

So, with that said, my question was if the "300 horsepower" that Autospies.com is saying is "Fantasy" horsepower (similar to Nissan's claims of 287 stock horsepower), or "Real" horsepower (what the nice man at the dyno shop will give you on the printout).

Sounds like you're comparing flywheel horsepower to rear wheel horsepower.

ya most cars loose about 10-25% of the HP from the engine to the wheels....

The 350Z looses about 16% for the manual and 22% for the auto (some reason the AUTO looses alot of HP according to dynos)

Well, Rear Wheel Horsepower is the number that Nissan, or any manufacturer for that matter, should advertise. Flywheel horsepower is not real world. Sure the engine might be making that power... but advertise the real world number that any schmoe can see on a dyno printout if he takes his car to a dyno shop. So I assume the 300 horsepower is Flywheel then?

I'm willing to bet, if anything, it's a small modification to the intake or exhaust. Maybe better configuration of the headers. For the Z to get an even 300, that's 13 crank hp which translates to something like 10rwhp or less.

View it from Nissan's perspective -- Why do anything major and lose potential nismo parts sales? They're better off keeping production costs low and profiting of performance parts. That's been the marketing strategy with the 350Z.

What would really benefit us is if it's something like a change in gearing or something else we haven't fully exploited yet.

Of course it would be at the flywheel. Just as you alluded to, every manufacturer distributes the horsepower at the flywheel numbers. And if every manufacturer does that, what difference does it make? It's not like Nissan did it just to make the engine sound more powerful.

the reason why industry uses crank is because measuring HP at the wheel is very inacurate. Measurements will change greatly depending on atmospheric temperature, humidity, engine temperature, type of dyno used, how the dyno is calibrated, etc etc. And none of these are standardized by automotive industry or NIST.

In addition, my personal want for the 35th Anniversay Edition 350Z is to have "35th Anniversay Edition" painted (in nice font type with a 45 degree angle) on both sides of my 350z. That would rock.

Also maybe a nice large ***** on top of the car as well. This can be magnetic so you can move it around to change up the style of the car whenever you feel like it.

Any thoughts...
