Unhappy Backing my car into the garage - real smart!

So I came home tonight and I got the bright idea of backing my car up my steep *** driveway into my garage. I had to feather the clutch allot and use the e brake. Then finally when I got into my garage I felt the car resisting so I let off the clutch/gas and my car was hitting something. Not sure if the tire hit the ramps in front of my garage (hopefully) or the rear end hit the wall. Anyway I straightened it back out and looked for scratches but I couldn't find any. It's been raining out so the car is filthy, maybe I just can't tell but hopefully it was just the tire hitting my ramps. Geez i'm so stupid! Anyway do you guys back your car into the garage and how the hell do it do it? Sorry for my rant. =)

I've never tried it. My garage is pretty small and has shelving on the right side, so whatever door is over there can't open. And while there is no place I'd rather be stuck than in my Z, I imagine I'd go a little mad if I spent a night in the Z in the garage.

Our garage is small, and if and when we do back it in, we use two people, one person in the back guiding, and a driver.

Easy solution:

1) park your car in the garage at the position you want (with the help of a friend or whatever)
2) hang a tennis ball on a string attached to the ceiling such that the ball just touches your rear windshield
3) now everytime you park your car u just have to back up until the ball touches the window and u're done

I always back my Z into the garage. How? Make sure the area you'll be parking in is clear of anything you may run in to. Just practice (carefully) until your comfortable doing it.

Hanging a Cinderblock is also effective.

Chris,

1. Do you have a cat?

2. Did you used to have a cat?

LOL it just takes practice to get the car into the garage safely while backing in. If possible, practice with parking spaces! I always back into parking spaces because I feel more comfortable seeing where I'm going when re-entering traffic.

jj1814 has a good point - use your two side mirrors a lot to constantly check where you're going. A common mistake people make when backing up is that they turn the wheel at the same time they turn around in their seat. Rid yourself of that habit and make sure you're lined up straight with the garage opening.

Good luck!

LOL, no I didn't run over my cat! The tennis ball is a good idea regardless if I am going to back it in or just pull in forward. My real question though guys wasn't how do I not hit the wall. It was how do I get my car up my steep *** driving without scraping or hitting the brakes.

That looks like a two car garage, without the center post to divid the garage into two parts. So you have PLENTY of room..

Btw, it must be sucks to have a stop sign right in front of your house heh? I know I wouldn't like it..

My dads car is usually parked on the other side which leaves very little room. I really don't know what the point of this post was either. Guess I just wanted to post because I was worried that I scraped something on my car. Thanks guys

Oh and I don't mind that the stop sign is there, I think it is cool we have one in are yard.

It may be stupid but at least it's related to the topic.

I just want to say thanks to all. I laughed a lot and that's good. When jj1814 said "HMMMMMM", I almost lost it. I've been spending too much time in the Off Topic posts. This is much more fun and better for you. Thanks, again.

guru, your driveway and where your house is located looks kind of similar to mine, sorry for the crapy pictures it was too dark to get some decent ones.

Aw, you gotta take that "TurnerNissan.com" front plate off there.. Replace it with something else.

I refuse to advertise for a car dealership.. If they want me to advertise for them, they should be paying me.

Unless they gave you a fantastic deal... or your dad is "Mr. Turner"
