Default anyone traded Z for G35 Coupe

I am debating between a Z (coupe and ZR) and the G35 coupe. Any information to help making up my decistion would be appreciated.

Z has a stiffer ride, letting you feel everything in the road. While the G has a much smoother ride, letting you feel jack along the road.

I believe Performance numbers are about the same. I would expect better Customer Service and such from the G since its from the Infiniti line.

And of course the Z is a 2 seater, while the G is a 2+2.

I guess it would mainly come down to which one is more appealing to you. Both are incredibly nice cars, both have long lineage lines. The Z being a legacy car, and the G being the American Skyline.

I'd suggest test driving both, and getting a feel for which ride you like better.

yeah, you're right. I have driven both and like them both. However, it appears that the Z has more problems than the G35 from this board. I've read that some Z owners just want to get rid of their Z. There are 3 major issues that really concern me. One is the transmission (6MT), the holes in the conv. top and the bad services from Nissan. As for the G35, it is a little more expensive and also bigger....

I would trade my Z for G35.
Just that the G35 has more luxury looks. Love the tail lights also there is 2+2 seater. But i guess the boot size would be smaller than the Z. IMO!

I purchased a new 2003 silver G35 coupe 6-speed in November 2002. I liked the car just fine, and the Infiniti dealership experience is second to none. You get a nice Infiniti loaner car any time you go in for service and repair. The car was pretty much trouble-free, except for the drift to the right problem common on the G35's and rectified by performing the associated TSB, and a rough idle resolved by replacing a faulty injector. Other than that, no other issues. After driving the car for about a year, though, it became just another car to me, and since I've always wanted a convertible, I sold the G35 and purchased a black Touring ZR 6-speed last February. The ZR feels a lot faster and more nimble than the G35. The quality of the car falls way short of the G35, however. The black paint on my ZR is nothing but orange peel, and the interior looks and feels cheaper. The bottom line: if you want to purchase a car that feels sporty, buy the Z. If you want a more refined car, with better paint and interior accoutrements, not to mention service experience and a back seat, buy the G35. Personally, I don't rergret selling the G35 for a ZR.

I had a Z and switched to a G35c. I love them both, but if you're looking to modify the car, the aftermarket is a little bit bigger for the Z... they share a lot of parts, but aftermarket aero is mostly aimed at the Z.

Thank you for your comments. This is exactly what I am looking. I am torn between the g35 coupe and the ZR. You have pointed out all the goods and the bads for both cars. However, my major concern is again the 6 MT and the holes on the top on the ZR. How is the ride, noise and comfort on the ZR comparing to the GC? I test drove both for a short distance. The GC is fairly quiet and comfy. The ZR is bit more stiff, but I feel it rides better than the Z coupe.

The Z is by far a nicer looking car. Everyone that i know thinks it is beautiful, they like the g35 too, but they say that the Z is so nice it looks nicer then a porsche. You already know the pros and cons, you just have to look at it for what you are going to use it for. Also how often are you going to use that back seat (nothing impied ), i mean im sure its cramped back there, and the Z feels so huge inside with only the 2 seats.

I have a G35c now and am going to trade it in for the ZR. Both cars are nice and drive very similar IMO. After a year with the G35c, I just miss having a convertable.

my opinion is go with the G I have a Z but everyone I speak with and ask about which one to buy I tell them anything but the Z. I tell them about all the things wrong with the Z and to not spend their money on a car with so many problems and a company as shitty as nissan. I will do everything I can to stop anyone from buying a Z. I have 2 freinds who have gone with a Vette and a Audi because of me telling them upfront what a nightmare theses cars are. Im sorry but having to blast your stereo so high to not have to hear those feathered wheels is just sad. Especially after paying almost msrp. for a car. I love my Z but it is what it is and if any of you dont really tell people when asked what a **** poor job nissan has done with correcting its problems then your just helping get away with this. I just bought a FX45 2004 and this is a sweet ride but I am done with nissan and infinity. Also if any of you have owned an infinity in the past ,after about 3-4 years they fall apart. The FX is a lease and thank god. Its funny but a nissan will always outlast an infinity.

You can ask a broad question like this, and it's usually the people with bad experiences that chime in. Every car company puts out a few lemons, I think this guy has had some bad luck. The Z is my 3rd nissan, and they all run perfect. The Z is also my 12th car, and by brand, it's just below Acura in my experiences.

I did testdrive both G coupe and 4 door. Just out of curiocity. Glad I did. In short,
*G ride is smoother than Z. Step in the direction of water bed.
* Back seats are nice in 4 door.
* Back seats are joke in coupe. I wasn't able to sit normal there (5'11)
* Luxury interior in G is questionable. Clock is nice, but the rest... And those stick-on pieses on door handle just killed me....

So if you need 4 seats - get 4 door. Otherwise get Z.
