Auto transmission - feedback please
For my fun cars over the last 16 years I have had a MT 300z and most recently a 5spd Miata. For a variety of reasons my next fun car must be an auto trans. I routinely drive a couple of other AT vehicles so it's not that I'm unfamiliar with AT's.....BUT I am wanting to hear from some who have the Touring pkg with AT.
How does it behave? Is it spritely or anemic? Are you pleased?
Obviously I had to order mine without ever driving one.
I did test drive an AT Corvette and will admit that the sheer power overcame any doubts or reluctance I had about the move to an auto trans.
Feedback appreciated.
Thanks.

I TIMED A 5.6 on the stopwatch with the tiptronic "which you can redline shift on" and i did.
with an empty tank an a 100 pound pasenger timing me
rumor is the sticks alawys faster and this is not always true
ill use the trans am a few years back for example where the street start times for the auto were faster then the stick.
now sure its fun to shift your own car im not knocking it im just stating the auto is no sloth

AT
I have one on my Touring and I love it. The first AT I have owned in a sports car. If I'm lazy, the D postion works great, a nice little burble of exhaust if you aren't listening to music. The manual mode is excellent. It has very shrt throws and it defaults to 1st gear when you stop. I had always used 3rd gear a lot in town 25 mph or above and you can cruise in 3rd or even 4th if you are in a lot of traffic. Get bored with shifting in gridlock, put in it Drive and ease along.
I don't have it broken in yet, but 90 mph comes very quickly when you are cruising at 60 and feel the need to go a little faster. Only 4000rpm, too. I have a little over 200 miles on it, so its time to start goosing it a little with roll-on acceleration, no burnouts or full throttle runs. Just some tweaking of the revs is what I mean. I was very uncomfortable buying an AT after manuals for 37 yrs, but I am more than pleased, I love it.
