i hear that. every morning commute is like:

clutch, gas, brake. clutch, gas, brake, clutch, gas, gas. brake, gas, honk. honk, gas, punch.

AT rules, although 6 MT would be way more fun. But, mashing on the gas take you off like a bullet with the AT!

Both have there pros and cons. I have the automatic. The tiptronic shifting is a pleasure, of course its not the same as shifting a manual but i dont see what the big deal is about having to have a manual. I test drove both, and the response from the auto was great, so i went with the auto. Its your choice though. Test drive them.

Even if they do...why does it matter?

I never said it did. I just asked why the rice boys mattered.

I have the automatic and I am happier than a pig in $hit that I have it. At first I was really mad that I got the AT, as the dealer could not get me a manual in time. I needed the car in 1 day, or I had to get another car besides the Z. I almost got a Mustang Mach I instead. I wanted the Z so I "settled" for the automatic.

After the intial disappointment subsided, I realized the automatic was a better fit for me. I drive to work and rountinely have to talk to clients as I drive. Stick would have been a hassle. Long Island and NYC traffic are terrible, made worse by the horrific drivers that we have here. If I had to drive a stick day to day, I might be in jail for road rage. The automatic is as smooth as silk and the "manual" mode can be made to feel like regular manual, only without the clutch. Driving it in manual mode allows you to hear that sweet exhaust note as you stay in the lower gears longer than a normal automatic would.

All of this being said, you need to judge what's best for yourself. I'm 31 and don't drive as crazy as I once did. Therefore a stick is less of a factor for me. If you really want to race the car around and get full excitement out of the car, I would go with the stick.
If it's your daily driver and you want a hot looking car with some *****, but only occasionally drive it crazy, the automatic is a better bet. Just my two cents.

But since you're using a headset or a cradle to talk seeing as how talking directly on the handset is illegal in NY, what difference does having to shift make?

;D

Because the stick would be another thing to think about. I trade bonds and I'd be talking about complicated stuff with clients and wouldn't want the destraction of having to decide the optimal shift. I know it becomes instinct, but added to the equation of terrible Long Island drivers and bumper to bumper traffic, it would be a real hassle. I might even slip and start cursing at the idiots on the road and let my clients see the rough Brooklyn boy that I try to disguise from them. Besides, I think the aggravation of the stick might end up making the drive stressful instead of fun. My buddy does the same commute I do and he hates driving his manual. He has an Audi S-4, so you would think he would have fun doing it.

I had a couple of 6spd Z owners who bash my auto. Then we race and I beat them. They go running with their tail between the legs

No way i would buy a Z without the 6spd... it makes the car and the drive WAY more enjoyable - in my opinion.

I wish you'd tell my insurance company that. For some reason they are charging me sports car rates on my automatic Z.
