Rattle with clutch/flywheel unit...?
Sup guys! I have had my z for over a year and i constantly browse these forums. I have seen posts about this but i never really read into these posts. I just returned from a long trip in my Z and now i am noticing that odd rattle when i let the clutch out at idle. Even when I take off in first gear I can still hear that rattle. Can nissan fix this noise and are that aware of this problem. Thanks in advance!

well that isnt really a "problem"
the stock flywheel is a dual mass, made to absorb that sound... that sound is a softer version of what is heard when people use the lightend flywheels...
the only thing they can do to "fix" it would be to replace your clutch and flywheel...
but that is normal... it happens to some cars sooner depending on how hard the driver is on the stock clutch...

I have noticed that on mine as well... But it only does it when i ingage the clutch quickly while rolling in 1st. I thought about it at first but i just assume its not a mechanical problem.....
would like to hear more info about it.

I think it's pretty normal...I have it too. Oddly enough highend performance flywheel/clutch combos (like OS Giken) make god awful sounds just in idle with the clutch disengaged.
I had a beretta GTZ...yeah a punk car i know, but anyway i drove the crap out of that thing until 180,000 miles before i traded it and it had the clutch chatter as well. You push the clutch in, the noise goes away. My Z does the same thing. Its no big deal, doesnt hurt performance and it doesnt signify a worn clutch. Many cars do this....except Honda's.

That rattle could very well be a known fault. If it happens when you hit the clutch after a hard acceleration and you are coasting, it is the shafts rattling against the cuffs. You will get a new tranny and clutch pedal.
If you leave it long enough, 3rd and 6th will start scuffing.
Did you buy the car new?
This is a problem with a bulletin out - I fixed mine and put in the NISMO clutch plate, cover and flywheel at the same time.
Go to your dealership get your new tranny.

Nope. it is not normal on '03's. There is a bulletin on certain '03s regarding this.
The main problem came from too much plastic in the clutch pedal linkage.

I am off today, but I might swing by the shop and get it. At the latest by tommorow.
P.S.
The repair comes with a new clutch pedal - so if you have the drilled covers, make sure the dealer orders a new one. If the service manager is any good, he will swap the old ones to the new pedal and STILL charge it to warranty. They are screwed on audits if they do it, but a lot take the chance.
