Braking : I don't know, but having drivin both cars, I think the Z brakes better. Soo.. Edge to the Z.

Regardless, race on a track, race on a drag strip, go to a car show, it is all in the driver, and in the eye of the beholder.

Don't forget if your doing some competive driving the S will need that top up. Top beind down is what gives it most of its fun. Top down though, slows the car a LOT. It is also fun because for me, it just HUGS you when you sit in it. You feel like PART of the car.

The Z is too big for me inside. I will be getting some racing seats and harnesses. I am hoping that will give me more of a snug fit in the Z and give me that tight feeling I'm looking for.
I've noticed that S owners or wannabe owners tend to overemphasis the S a little too much.

Several forumers here were 6 feet and over and could not fit in the S properly, at least not comfortably enough. Yet on the S2ki forum, some claim to be 6 feet 3 and feel right at home in the S. Weird??? Sometimes, if somebody is blinded by love, even a VW Beetle is the "funnest" car in the world.

Basically, I think the S is popular to those who are either :

- small (thus need a compact car with their compact frame)
- vtec fans
- movie stars
- roadster enthusiasts

There are plenty of fun cars around.

I've had my hands on a Suzuki Cappuccino, which is basically a smaller S2000 but with a 680cc engine and a 9700rpm redline. Performance spec is almost the same as the S (except top speed) if mildly modded. A nicely modded one can take an STI.

After driving this car, I just smiled and smiled. It is the funnest car I have ever driven. And yes, it does look somewhat like a chick's car when compared to say a GTR. In fact, I think it looks like a kid's car to me.

First, I never said there are no other fun cars to drive. Of course there are plenty!

Wanna be owner? I have spent 36k on my Z, I could have had an S and then some.

Part of the reason it is fun, yes it's small and im on the smaller side. 5'10 and only 145 pounds. So I fit perfectly. Yeah, VTEC is fun.. And yeah the top being down is great.

So, the S2k is most fun car I have ever drivin. If that bothers anyone then so be it.

Maybe this will settle the debate.

Default Having owned both...

I can tell you that the Z and the S are different beasts...

The S2k is more fun to fling around tight curves right up till 70 or so. It's lighter, and it just seems to react quicker - not only the handling, but the motor and gearbox as well. That said, I have to admit that I am not impressed by VTEC (at least on the earlier S2ks) - I don't like the feeling of sudden power as much as progressive power throughout the band.

The Z has a feeling of solidness to it that the S2k just doesn't have...above 75mph the Z feels so much more stable. Also, around-town driving and on the highway the Z's motor is just SOOO much smoother and more powerful.

I think the fact that I got rid of an S2k for a Z speaks for which car I prefer to pilot. The S2k was not a chick car by any means, but it was very small and the convertible top sucked. IMHO the G35c is a different kind of car entirely, and although it may post similar numbers...it is nowhere as engaging (which can be a good thing depending on your priorities).

any car that looks pretty is potentially a chick car. i've noticed that women like pretty cars. as in, they like to possess them not date guys who drive them. cars like the sti and evo otoh are truly manly cars since they make no effort to be pretty. they're just hardcore performance.

As a S2000 owner I can see how the S2000 can be seen as a chic car...it's small, it's cute, it's a roadster. chics love these types of cars. That's why Miatas are also chic cars.

It's no sweat off my back. You guys need to be more secure about your manhood. Go to a track and you'll see spec miatas flying around...where are all the 350Zs? Probably going to the grocery store - a woman's job

I test drove the 350Z. it's a nice car, depending on what you're looking for. looking for a sporty, good daily driver that is decently fast/quick, get the 350Z. what a more "raw" experience, get the S2000.

Your post started out ok, then ended like crap.

Like I said earlier, a Z vs. S on the track, on the strip, is a drivers race, PERIOD. No arguing it.

Decently fast, I agree. It is decently fast, but that would also mean that the s2k is also only decently fast. Just sounded like you were trying to say the S is faster. Its NOT.

Also, only a few people were saying it's a chick car ( I dont think so at all ) Not everyone.

About the Z goign to the grocery store, I see more women driving s2k's then Z's. However I do see a fair amount of them driving both cars.

I think people, BOTH s2k owners and Z owners need to stop talking crap about both of these cars. Both cars are great, both cars are fast in all ways, both cars are sexy looking. They just do what they do in different ways, and it comes down to what you like better. Different people have different taste. The one YOU like better does NOT make your opinion right.

Ah... well said.

I think chicks love the roadster not because they are manly, but they are cute and pretty and would love to own one.
That's the only explanation I can come up regarding the early popularity of the Miata. The S is just following the same pattern, except they don't sell as much. You will probably have a better chance of seeing a guy behind the wheel of an S than a girl.

Whatever guys! Be it a chic car, it suits me perfectly then. I'm a chic and I drive a bright (Spa) yellow S everyday, mostly top down. In the summer, I sometimes autocross with other owners and my male friends.

It's not a bad thing looking like a sporty chic car; it's pretty, cute, adorable, nimble, and even prettier when the top is down. But make no mistake about it, it doesn't drive like a chic car, unless a chic is Monica-type (the Formula One driver). This car is harder to drive than most other cars, but it also rewards the driver with ultimate fun. I am a Monica-type chic, so I love driving this car. I've been driving manual sports cars ever since I was 14, even before getting my license or permit. Whether someone sees it as a chic car doesn't concern me, but do not ever call it a ***** car. Your moms are probably women, do you call your moms bitches as well?

Shiri, the S doesn't sell as well as Miata because Honda only produces around 6,000 of them yearly.

By the way, I would estimate that only about 1% of S2000 drivers are women. That means out of 100 S2000, only one belongs to a girl. I'm one of VERY VERY FEW girls who own an S, out of many thousands of them.

After all said and done, I really like the 350Z as well, and am glad the Japanese sports cars are making a come-back. I like the Evo and STI performances, but they are too ugly for my taste. I hope the next Supra will be awesome. I know the NSX will be.

Please don't be like some of the cocky, ignorant Supra owners who think 350Z loses 36% hp at the wheels. Knowledge is best! Ignorance is blissful!

Honda S2000 Sales :

1999: 3,400
2000: 6,797
2001: 9,682
2002: 9,684
2003: 2,565 (through April)
Total: 32,128

It was well over 6k in the second year. It is slowly on the rise. I suspect the 04 models will be over 10k and the sales will stay steady or slightly rise.

Only 1% for women huh? I SWEAR on everything that at least 50-60% of the time I see an s2k on the road some lady is driving it. Most of them don't even seem like the type that would be enthusiastic about the car. And some with the top up, in the SUMMER!

I will say it again, NO.. I do not think the s2k is a chick car. I still love it and still want one.

I can't even count how many times I have came across an s2k and said DAMN, its a girl driving. They either wont look out from in front of them, or take their face out of the mirror. Dare and tell them they have a nice car and they give you the look

Jsn, I suspect those 50-60% of the women you've seen were driving their husbands/boyfriends/fathers' S2K. Of the women that truly own their own S2000 are about 1%, in my estimation. Go on s2ki.com and take a poll and I am almost certain that I'm right. I do know of other S2000 women owners, but they account for very few of the male ones I know. For every 100 S2000 I know of, only about 1 is owned and driven by a lady.

Whatever cars the girls drive, it's always a plus to tell them that they (not the cars) look good. If any guy (and so many have) has complimented my car (or me) while I'm driving, I'd of course would smile and wave at them. I'm not a rude type.

First off, there really is no way to tell who owns it. I mean hell, my freind went to go buy his NSX, guess what his wifes daily was? You guessed it! An s2k!

And WHO CARES if people see women driving it, it doesnt really matter at ALL! It does not take away from the fact the the s2k is a great car.

And I would doubt that you KNOW 100 people with s2k's. Of course most people on the forums will be males. Being so much into cars that you are a part of a forum that deals with your car is generally a male thing, so of course you would see more males on s2ki.

drag strip or race track? seems like the s2k is pretty formidable when there's more than just a straight line.

I may not KNOW them personally, but I do know more than 100 S2000 owners. I've met up with no less than 100 S2000 owners, and most of them are males; very few females.

Yes, it doesn't matter at all, in fact, I'd prefer to see more ladies driving it. I was just saying that the percentage of women owners is very small.

In your opinion

I will agree that the percentage of women s2k drivers is small, among car enthusiats.. I am positive there are plenty of women s2k drivers that just dont care and bought the car because they liked it. The same stands true for 350Z's, and probably all other cars.

Hell, I bet if you went to a miata meet most of them would be male. That is because they are all enthusiast that care about performance.

Not EVERYONE who buys a sports car is nessasarily a car enthusiats.

There was only 2 women Z drivers at a Z meet I went to ( mgl and z33 rie ) Both of whom are deffinitly more of a hardcore enthusiast then a lot of guys on the forum, with sweet Z's I must add

i would think it depends on the track more than the driver. and i'm not talking about some perversely twisty track. on a moderately twisty track, if both drivers are decent, regardless of which one is superior, the s2k has a big advantage. on a perfect oval the z will win. even if i'm driving the z.
