The fastest I have ever gotten the car is 162, but I have video of 157. Actually, in the video you can see 156, but I say something about 157. We had to shut it down at that point to make a turn

I did that in a car which was stock as far as handling goes (had a few engine mods). That video was made in a Touring model that didn't even have the aero package. Even at 155-160 the Z handles like a dream. No rattles, shakes, or other inconsistencies so to speak. With the car as smooth as it is at 160, I know it is capable of at least 170 if it can be deregulated.

If you're going to tell me I'm insane for doing that, forget it. I am not an expert, but I'm not a moron either. If I didn't feel confident driving to that speed I wouldn't.

Here's the video I mentioned...taken several months ago with a friend's BMW.
Great Vid!

My ***** went north just watching that!!!

I got my stock Track Z up to 140 on a deserted stretch of highway that ran trough the swamp. Probably the stupidest thing I have ever done. I am old enough to know better. It was very easy to get there and the car was stable and drove find. However, the squeal/whine that was coming from the drive train scared to death. It was deafening . Don’t do it. Its just not worth it. Ask Sam Kinison!

Ok, if you have never been 150+mph, maybe you need to recondsider. You are planning on pushing your car to a point where the slightest driver error or unforeseen change in road surface could result in you getting KILLED. Seriously, when you crash at 150-160 you dont readjust your insurance premiums, your parents put your *** in a coffin. Maybe you've gotten your car up to 100 mph. Very likely. But think of it like this: 40 mph is ALOT slower than 100 mph, right? So think about how much faster 160 is than 100. Thats the same amount of difference.

You were gonna do it no matter how many of us told you not to....So why bother asking.

Invincible, just like I said....

Good luck.

Don't forget if you have ever plugged or repaired one of your tires, you lose the speed rating. That means at high speeds there is a very good chance of one of the tires popping and you going bye bye.

I did 159mph the other night. Back road (2 lane road )
( And yes, BOTH speedos said 159mph)

Speed limiter cut me out though. I wasnt even near redline.I've seen some really wide ranges on speed limiters on Zs. Some of my friends cut out at 155, another at 157. Mine stopped at 159 .

btw: car is extremely stable at that speed

Nope. Stock tires and wheels. Both speedos read exactly the same.

.avi files should play in your standard windows media player. The install of windows media player will take care of the file association so that IE will know what program to launch when you click on the link.

Been 155 in a C5 vette. Can't say that I would do it in a Z, though.

Explain your flawed logic please? Proof of ownership of a Z would be nice too.

I'm curious about this statement. I've heard other people make it, too. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the stock tires Z rated? If so, then they are rated for sustained speeds over 149 mph, right?

You guys who see a difference in going 120 and 160 on a highway are ridiculous. If you lose it doing 160, it isn't going to be any worse than if you're doing 120. Get off your high horse and stop being so hipocritical. As for doing 160.....if you're sure it's a safe stretch of road and there's no traffic....GO FOR IT.

I am almost sure that the stock tires are W rated (speed < 160).

Dude, where did THAT come from? I don't recall anyone in this pot saying a crash at 120 was more survivable than a crash at 160.

The big difference between 120 and 160 is the time it takes to get there. The amount of ground you cover in that last 40 mph is HUGE, so your 'exposure' is probably doubled or tripled during that transition. So yeah, it is a big deal doing 160 vs. 120.

Additionally, you say "if you're sure it's a safe stretch of road and there's no traffic....GO FOR IT". What makes it a safe stretch of road? No curves, no animals, no debris? no potholes? no other cars? Show me that road and I'll show you the sign that tells which racetrack it is.

Now go take your Valium and stop name-calling. We're all adults here, show some maturity.
