Tachometer "tick marks"...grumble, grumble
Maybe it's being an old geezer engineer, but I've always preferred instrument "tick marks" to be at even divisions. The Fairlady Z tach is subdivided in four divisions every 1000 rpm, giving marks at (for example):
4000, 4250, 4500, 4750, 5000
How much nicer it would be if it were FIVE divisions:
4000, 4200, 4400, 4600, 4800, 5000
Granted, the needle sweeps up so fast it doesn't really matter, does it?
Best tach/speedo: my '92 Ducati 900SS; beautiful white-faced Veglia...

Be glad it's not like an old Ford Escort where the speedo shows the 5s (ie, 25, 35, 45) with 3 ticks between them for 2.5mph per tick. Or the voltmeter on a Jeep Cherokee that shows something like 6, 9 and 15 volts with 4 ticks between each...

Well, this is a little off topic but I just noticed your profile (Albuquerque) and I noticed your user name, and I think I see your car parked over in the UNM Parking Services parking lot all the time (CS track with the Fairlady Z emblem in the back). I am a CompE Graduate student at UNM. I noticed you mentioned engineering, which department do you teach in?

Mechanical, of course!
Mechanical engineering, of course! We study things that move that you can see...
You must be the guy that our former department chairman grumbled about for taking up his parking space...he thought it was me!

I have a few friends in the Graduate Mechanical Engineering program (and a few that already graduated), and so every once in a while I would stop by for a quick visit and use the Visitors spot if it was empty (usually around lunch and not for very long, so I figured no biggie). Well one of those times as I am leaving Dr Checci (sorry, I don't know how to spell his name, I just know who he is) starts telling me off about how much it costs the Mech E department to pay for that spot and how it is for visitors and how I use it ALL the time. I tried to explain to him that I didn't know I was doing something wrong because when I parked there I WAS a visitor (I had already graduated with my CompE BS and this was before I was in the Graduate program) and that honestly I didn't park there very often or for a very long time, but he seemed very upset, and kept saying how "if I was going to lie at least I should do it in a less noticeable car". Back then there weren't very many 350Zs around so obviously he was going to notice it and remember it when he saw it, which is why I think he assummed I would park there all the time.
Sad part is I actually had him as a teacher for an undergrad tech elective class and used to think highly of him, but the way he approached me that day was just a little too rude and unprofessional for my taste. Oh well, at least I still like his IS300
