No Promotion, just an FYI:
350 Z 500 KPH Speed record project
If you or your group members would like to set a world speed record in a 350Z Nissan, read on!
WHAT
*You can build a 350 Z car capable of a 500 kph (311 mph) world speed record.
WHERE
* Bonneville Salt Flat, Utah
WHO is driving?
*You.
WHY
Promotion for your dealer or your organization, for rental rides or just for fun.
WHO is going to build them?
Yoshi Suzuka
Required spec.
The car which has frontal area = 1.92 sq.m at Cd =0.28, Cl=-0.3, weight 1350 Kg and a 1550 horsepower motor will deliver 500 kph in 25 seconds at the distance of 3 Km (1.9 mile). For these results, the surface must be in ideal condition.
Cd
The above Cd value is a hypothetical number. Here is the question mark:
During my experience in aero work on the Skyline GTR race version at Nissan, I could trim Cd down to 0.23 with this GTR sedan. The lowest Cd car on the market today is the Honda Hybrid car whose Cd is 0.27. The original Nissan 350Z is close to 0.32 which is rather high number. I performed 350Z development in 2002 for Japanese grand touring car series.
Lowering Cd is the key for speed records since the required horsepower goes up by square of the speed.
The Cd value is not ruled only by its external looks; it is the accumulation of many characteristics such as the cooling duct, ride height, front down force and rear downforce.
We can reduce the drag drastically, but still need some wind tunnel work for this purpose. I have many new ideas to adopt into this vehicle.
Records
The world record for this kind of production based car is 305 mph(491 kph),
modified class record in 2001 set by D.Casteel in a Trans Am at the Salt Flat.
The Suzuka designed Nissan R90CP still holds the top speed record of 366 kph at the Le Mans 24 hours, a record established in a practice session for the1990 race.
You might think this is not an impressive number but this was a race trim car and had lots of downforce. This particular car still holds a speed record of 396 kph at the Arizona Test Center.
The fastest speed ever recorded at LeMans was 405 kph by WM Peugeot by 'Project 400' at Hunaudieres before the chicane was built, but this was done by using special narrow Michelin tires.
Oldsmobile's Aerotech set a 414 kph closed circuit record in 1997, but this car is a
specially built speed record car. The fastest Corvette to day is the Callaway Sledgehummer, which set 411 kph(255 mph)
at the TRC 7.5 mile course.
Common problem in past
Many cars attempted for speed record and failed from suffering front stability which the most street car create lift.
350Z and Audi TT, such cars will suffer rear lift without rear spoiler.
Too much downforce will increase friction and too little make a car un-controllable.
Too much lift in rear decrease the traction and stop acceleration, this trend increase by square of the speed.
The delicate balance will require for the successful speed run.
Wind tunnel test is inevitable above certain speed.
Safety
Speed trials at Salt Flat, a dry lake, are much safer than using a regular race since there are no objects to hit and the vehicle is not required to carry much fuel. Still it is wise to prepare the best equipment.
This vehicle will be equipped with an advanced survival cell to ensure the safety of the driver, which is better than any existing racecar.
I have been working on race car design, building and aerodynamics over 30 years including AL Unser Jr's Eagle Indy car, the Nissan IMSA GTP car, Group C cars, Can Am cars, the NISMO GTR and many touring cars.

Bringing up ancient threads.
Oddly Enough I was trying to reach Curt Geatches as I have not spoken to him in few years and saw this thread in my google search.
A lot of folks were saying WTF?
If you know Yoshi (absolutely brilliant aerodynamicist) -Desgined all the aero on the 300ZX GTP car (at one point that car was making over 10,000lbs of downforce). I think he was simply soliciting his services. His English is still somewhat challenged.
Curt Geatches was a director of engineering for the Nissan 300ZX GTP car and he himself is an amazing engineer. I worked with Curt to win two championships.
So all in all, if you do want to build a crazy stupid fast car call them.

I don't necessarily think it is pointless when probably the worlds greatest sportscar aerodynamicist contacts you to build a car. In fact if I were h4lights I would be bragging about it. Then again I would be surprised if anyone on here knew what BRE, Electromotive, NPTI or JGTC was in the first place, or what place they hold in Nissan racing history.
