Default coilovers and wheel hop

Hi

Does anyone with stiffer suspensions still have wheel hop?

I have wheel hop even on the wet in straight line at all the rpm,
but I can't find any fix for the problem on the forums, and no one seems to know if it's because of soft bushing, standard lsd, or too soft suspension.

The differential will effect the traction, also the spring rates, however it might be that you have too stiff a spring and or shock and not, too soft. A softer shock/spring will allow more rear-end squat under accleration giving you more traction. Some of the coilovers I have seen have way too high a spring/shock rate for a street car....

Also the stock viscous LSD doesnt hold that well when the wheels are spinning... That could be causeing the hop too, but im not sure about it...

I would not agree, a stiffer suspension should reduce wheel hop, as you say, a softer spring will give you more traction, and a stiffer spring would make the wheel spin easier, and reduce unwanted suspension moving that maybe also make wheel hop.

I don't know exactely why there is this wheel hop in the 350Z, if it's a combination of too soft suspensions and bushing, or the lsd or something else, but ie, if you try to spin a real racing car with very stiff suspension set up it wouldn't make any kind of wheel hop.

Jason,

Did you ever fitted coilovers on a z that had wheel hop, or a nismo lsd, and what was the result?

Wheel hop can be eliminated by...

upgrading engine mounts (urethane or solid)
upgrading bushings (delrin, urethane, nylon)
upgrading differential (nismo, cusco, kaaz)
upgrading camber + traction arms
installing differential brace
installing engine torque damper

Thanks

Where can you buy polyurethane engine mounts and bushings?

What is the diff brace?

Do you think the camber and toe arms are really needed or is it just because they have stiffer bushings?

Jason, keep us updated on the search for those. You just keep finding cool products for our car and running my bank account into the ground. Thanks ;-)

I've eliminated the wheel hop with traction/camber arms, engine torque damper, coilovers and wider/stickier tires. I can dump the clutch at 3500-5000 rpms and just spin until the tires get greasy. Still cant "hook" yet though. (Well if you consider 1.95 - 60' time not hooking on street tires.) I think the Z is capable of 1.75 sec - 60' time on street tires with the right setup.

After eliminating wheel hop, I think it will come down to weight transfer and geometry. A car that can trap 100+ mph should be able to get into the low 13's if it can hook.

Since I have had my adjustable coilovers on when I put it on the lowest damping force the wheel hop isnt as bad when launching on a drag strip...

still hoping for some mounts...
