Nervous buyer
Hi folks,
I am considering the purchase of a Z coupe. After reading all of these threads about tire wear, soft paint, and transmissions problems I am more then a little nervous. If you had to do it all over again would you still purchase a Z ?

First, you have to remember that the people on the forums discuss issues they're having with their cars, good and bad. If you stop and think about it, there's as much postive as negative posted here, which is really amazing since people like to ***** more than talk about good things.
Second, I've had my ZR for 3 months and 3500 miles now and it still brings a smile to my face every time I see it. In fact, I have to go out to the garage right now to stare at it again. .
If you get the Z you will not regret it. It still boggles my mind why anyone would want a roof on one of these things though.

I wouldn't worry about it.. I pre-ordered my "Z" in Feb 2002.. I now have just short of 20,000 miles on it with no major problems.. Yes.. I do have the grease streak on my window but I'm not letting the dealer damage the car to correct it.. I can live with it.. I've had no tire problems, no transmission problems, no complaints at all.. It's a fun car to own and drive.. I still get looks everywhere I go.. Last night at dinner my wife was amazed how many people came over to look at the car.. It was almost funny..
Bottom line.. Buy the car and enjoy it.. Life is too short..

I got the grease streak fixed on the 1st try and no related dealer problems. If you got streaks I suggest you get it fixed. IMO a simple problem like this is not a valid reason to pick or not pick a car.

I had the same hesitations but bought my Z on 4/2/04. I now have 1,300 miles and find reasons to drive it. I sometimes just gotta take it for a spin before bed. My wife thinks I would rather spend time with my car then with her.........too close to call.
It's too early to tell if I will have any of the issues discussed but so far, not a problem.
I'm 44 but this car makes me feel like I'm 24. I bought the popcharger and have decided to buy the Borla exhaust too. My friends just look at me and shake their heads. But, they love my car and I think are a bit jealous they can't have one. They are the family of 4 type with mini vans and soccer practice!!!!

People always seem to be under the impression that every Z experiences all of these problems. If you're afraid to buy a car because it may have a problem, your best bet is to go out and get a bus pass.

I have had my Z since early April 2003 and the car has about 7,600 miles on it. I do have the tire feathering problem and the dealer has agreed to replacement my tires at no charge. Despite the tire issue, I would buy another Z in a heartbeat. I love driving the car, and I have never seen an auto attract so much attention.

No problems here, as of 4600 miles on my 2004.5 Touring 6spd coupe.
Sometimes, I worry that the tires will feather, or that the paint will all chip off, but then I just stomp on the gas pedal and dive into a corner, and suddenly, all my worries are gone. Works every time! Go get the damn car already!
