Default Question for those who got the Bose fix

I got the BOse fix on my car for the lousy automatic volume adjustment....since I got it back there is virtually NO bass in my Z now.....anyone else have the same problem since the fix? I'm about to call the Nissan dealer and complain about it.

There were two fixes released. The first really killed the Bass as you describe, the second was definitely an inprovement, but still not a "premium sound". It almost sounds like maybe you got the first fix and not the second - they were both amp replacements, but not the same amp.

More info - the first TSB was NTB02-111A, the second replacement was a "campaign", number P3140.

IMO...If you already notice that the Bose system doesn't "sound right" , your done. Nothing that Nissan will do will fix it. If you are used to a premium system then tear it out and start new. If you just want good sound you may be able to swap out the speakers, add a new sub, amp etc.....

Don't waste your time with Nissan on the stereo.

the last fix worked well for me.
Thumpin and tight bass (to me).
The 1st DEF killed the bass.

Do a search, this was the HOTTEST topic (besdes greddy TT) last year for us 2003 guys.

Seems the new 04' owners are pretty satisfied.

yup... that happened to me as well with the first replacement amp. They reduced the amp power, I think. The 2nd replacement amp was definately better than the 1st but still not completely satisified. My 2000 Acura TL BOSE sounded so much better than the ones in my Z.

so then just to clarify so I know what i'm talking about when I complain to the moron manager at the Nissan dealer again....second replacement was a "campaign", number P3140 to replace the amp from the first TSB that reduced the amp power....correct?

The second fix definitely turned down the bass a bit, and made the thing overly bright on CDs. I used to pre-fix set my bass and treble neutral most of the time. Now, I generally use +2 bass and -2 treble (CDs) or 0 treble (radio).

The Bose still isn't all that great, but it is significantly better. It no longer is audiably tiring to me like it used to be when it sounded like the tweeters were out of phase in my car. I just wished they hadn't made it quite so bright, and made it more realistic.

id recomend the second.

however the second was a voluntery recall or some ********.

so if you dont mention to your dealer there unlikely to bring it up.

bottom line is when all is said and done you still have an ok stock radio

I am sure mine is not fixed even though Nissan USA said my car didn't need it. (based on VIN)

I have to crank the bass and treble to +5 each to get anything. And even then the system sounds kind of flat and the bass vanishes once I get rolling on the highway.

I just don't want to add the extra weight from an aftermarket sound system. My last system weighed in at 75lbs total!!! ACK!

So for now I use my iPod with the EQ set to "rock". This overdrives the Bose auto-adjustment crap and gives me some slightly thumping bass and decent highs. Enough that I am satisfied.

Maybe if I buy a second convertible Z for crusing I'll slap a system in it....hmmm.....second Z...
