For those who think the Z will be very common, read this.

30,000 units a year is about how many vettes GM sells. Even after 5 years of the same body style, they are still fairly uncommon on the road.
I would like it if Nissan keeps it to that level. If they try to flood the market with them, the value of the new ones and the used ones will go down. Dealers will start dealing on them. If they keep the imports to 25-30k a year, the cars we get will hold their value better. Even at 10k WRXs, the dealers are selling near invoice.
The secret is keep supply less than demand. It keeps the buyers happy 'cause they have something exclusive, and the dealers happy, 'cause it keeps profits up. Try to buy a S2k, a MR2 spider, or a Harley. All of those have a higher demand than the supply, and the all hold their value very well.
Then look at the PT cruiser. Chrysler started making a ton of them, getting greedy, and now people don't want them anymore, 'cause you see them everywhere. (I don't know what people saw in them anyway!)
Actually, I would be happy if they only made the sunset lemans for this year. That way mine would be more rare!

The dealers pay less than invoice for a vehicle. They may have a special discount for dealing higher quantities of cars and they pretty much always have a kickback on every new vehicle they sell. The kickback is usually no more than 3 percent on the quoted invoice. I read this on www.edmunds.com though I can't find the article at the moment. The main point is that what the dealership pays the factory is different than the invoice you will find at www.kbb.com or anywhere else.
Secondly, any loss Nissan incurs on the Z will not affect the MSRP price of the Z directly. It may affect the factory price, which would in turn inflate the invoice price and raise the MSRP. Nissan would either produce fewer cars or raise their price. You are not paying their price at the dealership. You are paying the dealer's price, which, hopefully, doesn't exceed the MSRP. There is a difference between Nissan's price and the dealer's price.
Nissan's profit is built into their factory/"invoice" price. The dealership makes its profit by selling at MSRP, several thousands of dollars over the invoice price.
Therefore, dealers can reasonably be expected to sell at or near invoice. The quantity demanded vs. quantity supplied may necessitate the higher selling price for the dealer.

I guess it depends upon what you call common. If it is turn that the s2000 is only being produced in 10K volume, it sure seems like a helluva lot more than that to me. A quick DMV list check for Florida shows over 10K registered alone in Florida. I seem to pass them as often as I pass Toyota Corollas in Central Florida.
As for the 350Z's, Nissan is definitely looking for this car to be a mass production vehicle. It has high profit margins for both the dealer and manufacturer, and is a great tool for bring buyers into the showroom.
And yes it has been mentioned before that Nissan has indicated that it may put the 350Z on the VPP program as early as Apr '03, which would allow VPP participants to get a 350z at nearly dealer cost, depending upon how good a negiotator you are.

Yeah sorry, I saw that somewhere, but didn't know who posted that info so didn't know who to quote. So their is 1800? Wow, with 30,000k a year, your only talkin 1-2/dealer, and give the advangtage to some big dealers, still make 3-4/dealer. I still say it won't be very common, and selling price won't go under MSRP till 04' or LATE 03'

30,000?
Let's see what the real number is. I'm betting lower.
But, even at 30,000 to the US this is a spit in the ocean of production!
It's interesting how the bragging starts but when you look at the actual paperwork, the numbers magically change.
$1500 below MSRP financed over 60 months at what 'real' interest rate?
If you get the car at MSRP you are doing good and the dealer is happy as well. Try to squeeze the 'deal' and the outcome may not be pleasant.
Wow...what an unpleasant thought; To SEE too many Z's!

I find it really hard to believe that there are only 9000 S2000's produced a year. I know 4 people who own one. And a few weeks ago, when I was thinking about getting one, I kept count for a week, and saw 11 of them. And, no, it wasn't the same one each time. I would much rather have a Z anyways.

what?
I WANT to see as many Z's as possible. I didn't buy my Z to impress people with how exclusive I wannabe. I bought it because it's a great deal, and a great deal of fun.
I wish every *** driving a street-legal tank (aka SUV) would turn their vehicle in for a 350Z! The roads would be a safer place (as long as those lamers bought automatics! heh)

On the exclusivity note. I prefer to not have a car as common as a Corrolla. But exclusivity cost money, and right now the Z is about all I can afford(I live in California).

Sometimes I get a little bombed, a little belligerent, and misspeak - but this is just awful.
