Default steering wheel fade?

I notice on my steering wheel about 12 o clock is starting to fade/peel I do rest my hand there alot so I can see why its wearing. Anyone else have this same problem? Any way to fix?

I have the same issue as you do but it's on my shifter. I've tried leather conditioner/cleaner and it seems to be buying it extra time but the leather is getting worse. I might have to get a new shifter soon. Out of curiosity, how many miles do you have?

I've noticed there are scuffs on the 7 - 8 o'clock position on my steering wheel. I'm sure it's from brushing it while getting in or out.

Grommit, you shouldn't be resting your hand on the shifter. Causes increased wear on the synchros and various assorted mechanicals. If you're not shifting, your hands should be on your steering wheel (or cell phone or big gulp or whatever )

Mine is not fading or peeling. But certain parts of the leather on the steering wheel seem dryer and rougher. Noticed it a wk or 2 after i got the car. Not sure if it was like that from the get go. I've had the car a little over a month now.

I'd noticed the same on my car just a few weeks after I bought it. Check the position it is on the wheel and see if it's because your right leg rubs it on the way into the vehicle.

mine is mostly around the silver bars on the steering wheel. Anybody else got the steering wheel replaced?

Mine is really not at a point right now that I have to get it replaced. If in a couple thousand miles it starts peeling, I'll probably get it replaced.

My company does interior refinishing and repairing for more than 300 car dealers. We come across steering wheel/shifter leather wearing and fading. We can easily refinish these and guarantee no fading/peeling for 2 years. The dealer can warranty these repairs and at the dealers option either replace or repair. As always a lot depends on the dealer service department as to how they handle the problem. You can prolong the life of the leather in the vehicle by using a LEATHER CONDITIONER on all of the leather in the car. Stay away from silicone products such as Armorall.

hehe, yeah... I don't keep my hands on the shifter. I only touch it when I shift other wise I keep both hands on the wheel or sometimes just resting on the center console.

In my fathers truck, (which I used to learn manual), I used to keep my hand on the shifter at all times, but, eventually got sick of that buzzing feeling I got in my hand after I get out of the car. Since then I've been good at keeping my hands off the shifter. I'm also aware of possible damage to the synchros, etc... Thanks for the tip though!

I think I'm going to go ahead and get a different shift ****. Now which one should I get. Hmm...

Hey man, good news on the steering wheel.

okay, off topic but how do you like your nismo shifter? I saw one at the dealer but for one reason or another they wouldn't let me hold it so i don't know how the quality really is. Also, how hot does the titainium get when you park your car in the sun?

Thanks man.

I love it bro, I feel the car more and my shifts have been better. I have big hands and it suits me well.

About it getting hot? I live in FL so i know all about the sunshine, it actually doesn't get too hot. The quality is great its light and feels strong. And the sticker ontop doesn't look cheap like the other shifters : black & chrome ones.
