its the oxidation from the moisture in the air. if you look under your car there are alot of parts that look this way. you can clean it off but over time it will come right back. the extent of the problem depends on alot of things from the metal used right down to where you live. i would like to have shiny clean rotors as well but i just try to ignore it.

my car is less than 2 monthes old in california. I think it only rained half a day since I had it, and it was only out in the rain for 15 minutes.
It probably was sitting on the lot or the boat for a long time. Build date was 12/03 and I got it on 04/04.

OMG!!! I can't believe he did that! Reminds me of the guy who covered the TREAD surface of his tires with Armor All cause he thought it would look "hella sweet". He then proceded to wreck his car into a tree.

I can't believe some of the stuff people post. Too incredible to make up!
Oh yeah. Your rotors look rusty basically because they are. Usually a quick drive using your brakes smooths most of it off. Mine look like that every time I wash the car but as soon as I drive it they are shiny silver again.

yep... a minute or two of driving will fix the prob.
They are cast iron rortors, no matter what you do they will rust. Unless you get ceramic or carbon discs, they will be iron and will rust over time.
